BMW stirred up a bit of frustration among American enthusiasts last week when it revealed the exclusive M340i 50 Jahre Edition—initially announced only for the Canadian market. However, the company has now clarified that U.S. buyers will not be left out after all. Shortly after the Canadian announcement, BMW confirmed that the United States will also receive this special-edition model. Just like the Canadian version, the American-spec M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition has been introduced to commemorate 50 years of the iconic 3 Series lineup. It will be sold in a single, highly equipped configuration priced at $75,200, plus an additional $1,175 for destination and handling.

The model serves as a tribute to one of BMW’s most admired sport sedans, blending modern performance with styling cues drawn from the 3 Series’ rich heritage. Buyers interested in this commemorative edition will be able to select from five distinct design packages, each crafted to honor a different generation of the 3 Series.

The first appearance package pays homage to the original E21 generation. This variant comes finished in Ruby Red Metallic, paired with an Ivory interior and red-painted brake calipers. The second package draws inspiration from the beloved E30, wearing Boston Green Metallic paint, Tartufo leather upholstery, and blue brake calipers. Representing the E36 era, the third option arrives in Avus Blue Metallic, matched once again with Tartufo interior trim and blue calipers. Moving further down the legacy line, the E46-themed version is offered in Carbon Black Metallic with black upholstery and red calipers. Completing the group is the E90-inspired configuration, finished in Sparkling Graphite Metallic, featuring Tartufo leather and red calipers.

Regardless of the chosen package, every 50 Jahre Edition features blacked-out Shadowline trim on BMW’s signature kidney grilles and lower air intakes, accompanied by the available M Shadowline full LED headlights. To reinforce its special-edition identity, BMW includes an M Performance carbon fiber rear spoiler along with a unique commemorative badge mounted on the trunk lid. Additional visual enhancements consist of an M Performance exhaust system fitted with Shadowline-finished tailpipes and glossy black 19-inch M wheels.

Inside, the celebratory treatment continues. One of the headline upgrades is the introduction of extended Merino leather upholstery—offered for the first time in any U.S.-market 3 Series. This higher-grade leather extends beyond the seats to areas such as the door panels and armrests, creating a more cohesive and premium interior environment. Photos do not clearly show whether the lower center console receives the same treatment, but the overall effect is a more elegant and unified cabin. BMW stops short of offering a full-leather dashboard wrap, which may disappoint some buyers. Additional interior touches include extra carbon fiber trim pieces, a Harman Kardon premium audio system, special-edition scuff plates, and a new metal plaque positioned on the cupholder cover.

Mechanically, the M340i 50 Jahre Edition remains unchanged aside from its M Performance exhaust. It continues to be powered by BMW’s well-known 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Output remains at 386 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, delivered through an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. This setup allows the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h in a quick 4.1 seconds.

BMW says orders are officially open, with production already in progress. The first U.S. customers can expect deliveries to begin in the early months of 2026.
