Kia Introduces Telluride’s First Plug-In Hybrid Option

After hinting at a camouflaged version just a few weeks ago, Kia has now released the first unmasked images of the all-new 2027 Telluride, revealing a design that is both bold and confident, while still maintaining a distinct identity separate from its EV counterpart. While the full technical specifications will only be confirmed at the upcoming LA Auto Show later this month, these images provide a clear look at both the standard Telluride and the rugged X-Pro trim in its striking gold finish, showcasing the SUV’s exterior and interior features.

The new Telluride displays a more squared-off silhouette, with smooth surfaces and subtly flared fenders. Unlike the EV9, it does not feature the D-pillar kink or the transverse light bar, making its design uniquely its own. Front and rear lighting employs vertically oriented LEDs, offering continuity with the outgoing model, yet the grille represents a significant departure from previous styling. On most trims, the grille is partially closed and incorporates vertical bars, while the trail-focused X-Pro trim features a bolder, block-style grille accompanied by exposed tow hooks and taller roof rails. Additional X-Pro elements, which were first introduced for the 2023 model year, include specialized off-road tires and a ground clearance of 231 mm, underscoring the trim’s rugged character.

Inside, the cabin has been completely redesigned to complement the sharper exterior appearance. A new dual-screen arrangement stretches across the dashboard from behind the steering wheel to the center console. While Kia has not confirmed the precise measurements, the screens appear larger than the previous model’s optional 12.3-inch units. High-quality materials, including real wood and metal trim, enhance the dashboard, doors, and center console. Upper-level trims gain a refreshed two-tone leather seat design with mesh headrests, while the interior also introduces new color schemes such as Deep Navy and Blackberry, complemented by accent options like Tuscan Umber and Sand Beige, offering a more premium and customizable cabin experience.

Powertrain specifications are not yet fully disclosed, but the Telluride shares its platform with the updated Hyundai Palisade, which features a turbocharged 2.5-liter hybrid system and a 3.5-liter V6 engine. It is expected that the Telluride will offer a similar range of powertrains. First-generation Tellurides were equipped with a 291 hp naturally aspirated V6, which is being replaced with a more advanced two-pronged approach. One likely option is a 3.5-liter V6 producing 287 hp and 352 Nm of torque, while the other is expected to be the Telluride’s first plug-in hybrid variant with a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine.

Although official pricing has not yet been announced, the new model is anticipated to see a slight increase compared to the current generation. The 2026 Telluride ranges from $37,885 for the base LX to $55,180 for the SX Prestige X-Pro, while the 2027 model is projected to start just below $40,000. Complete details will be revealed when Kia officially debuts the updated SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month.
