New 2026 Haval H6 L Revealed

GWM has officially revealed the 2026 Haval H6 L in China, presenting it as a roomier and more premium-oriented family SUV. However, the brand has stated that there are currently no announcements regarding its arrival in Australia. Positioned above the standard Haval H6 that Australian customers are familiar with, the H6 L is developed from the Haval Xiaolong Max platform. The Xiaolong Max has been available in China since 2023 and recently underwent a styling and technology update earlier this year.

Despite sharing its underpinnings with the Xiaolong Max, the H6 L does not adopt that model’s plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Instead, it will be sold with conventional internal combustion power: buyers can choose between a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine or a more powerful 2.0-litre turbo four. A spokesperson for GWM Australia commented that the company is continually assessing opportunities that may suit Australian consumers but that there are no specific announcements to make right now regarding this model.

Previously, in 2024, GWM Australia’s managing director Charles Zhao suggested that the Xiaolong Max could effectively replace the H6 range in Australia, calling it “the new H6”. However, the Australian market has instead received a facelift for the current H6 lineup, including new plug-in hybrid options and suspension tuning tailored specifically for Australian road conditions. Because of this, the H6 L may end up being marketed as a larger and more spacious SUV than the standard H6, potentially taking the place of the sportier Haval H6 GT, which has not yet been updated globally in line with the wagon-style H6.

If the H6 L or the related Xiaolong Max does eventually arrive in Australia, it is highly likely that a plug-in hybrid option would be prioritized for this market to meet growing consumer and regulatory demand.

The H6 L will be launched for sale in China beginning in November. It measures 4800 mm long, 1895 mm wide, and 1730 mm high, riding on a 2810 mm wheelbase. Compared to the current H6, the H6 L is 97 mm longer and 9 mm wider, with an extra 72 mm added to the wheelbase. Its dimensions also place it close to the Kia Sorento, though it is slightly shorter in overall length and width while being taller. It is also similar in footprint to the Jaecoo J8, another large two-row SUV newly introduced to Australia.

Inside, the H6 L focuses heavily on comfort and technology. It features a 14.6-inch central touchscreen running GWM’s latest Coffee OS 3 interface, a digital driver’s display, head-up display, 50-watt wireless charging pad, and multi-colour ambient interior lighting. Higher-spec versions include heated front and rear seats, ventilated and massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 10-speaker premium audio system, an air purification system, and power-adjustable seating.

GWM Australia is also expected to expand its large SUV lineup beyond the H6 L. The six-seat, plug-in hybrid Wey Blue Mountain is anticipated to arrive, and the company already sells the rugged body-on-frame GWM Tank 500. The brand has confirmed that further details regarding its future SUV product plans will be revealed soon, with at least seven new GWM models scheduled to join Australian showrooms in the coming year and a half.
