Zhengzhou Nissan has officially introduced the all-new Frontier Pro series pickup truck to the market, announcing pricing that spans from $23,800 to $35,000. Within this lineup, the Frontier Pro fuel-powered models carry a recommended price range of $23,800 to $27,600, while the Frontier Pro PHEV versions are positioned slightly higher, between $26,600 and $35,000. This latest generation of the Frontier Pro represents a significant step for Nissan, as it becomes the brand’s first vehicle to be completely conceived, engineered, and manufactured in China, with the strategic intention of exporting it globally. The series also distinguishes itself through two clearly defined styling directions—one for the conventional internal-combustion models and another for the plug-in hybrids.
The fuel-driven Frontier Pro maintains Nissan’s well-known V-Motion design language, delivering a look that long-time Nissan customers will instantly recognize, yet with modern enhancements that bring it up to date. The PHEV iteration, on the other hand, adopts a more futuristic and electrified appearance, aligning closely with contemporary electric-vehicle design trends. This difference between the two versions extends beyond powertrain choice and gives buyers stylistic options that reflect their preferences and expectations.
In terms of physical size, the Frontier Pro has an undeniably imposing stance. The truck measures 5,520 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,950 mm in height, paired with an expansive 3,300-mm wheelbase. The cargo bed is designed for practicality and heavy-duty usage, offering generous dimensions of 1,520 mm in length, 1,600 mm in width, and 490 mm in depth. At the rear, the design is both sturdy and clean, and certain trims are equipped with an electric soft-down tailgate to enhance convenience during loading and unloading.
Stepping inside the cabin, the Frontier Pro incorporates features expected in today’s pickup segment. It comes equipped with a fully digital instrument panel and a large central infotainment display. While the truck embraces modern technology, Nissan has retained a row of physical buttons on the centre console to ensure intuitive and accessible operation of essential functions. The interior atmosphere is elevated with the inclusion of a premium 12-speaker JLA audio system and generous use of soft-touch materials, improving overall comfort and perceived quality.
Under the hood, the Frontier Pro provides a wide range of powertrain choices to meet different market needs. The fuel-powered lineup includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline engine producing 258 hp and 400 Nm of torque, as well as a 2.3-litre turbo diesel rated at 190 hp and 500 Nm. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The plug-in hybrid model features a 1.5-litre engine paired with a front-mounted electric motor, delivering an impressive combined output of 429 hp and 800 Nm of torque. This hybrid setup is matched with a 4-speed DHT transmission and is capable of achieving a CLTC-rated pure electric driving range of 135 km.
Zhengzhou Nissan, which serves as Nissan’s first joint venture focused on complete vehicle production in China, also functions as the company’s light commercial vehicle R&D hub, playing a key role in Nissan’s global development strategy.
