Geely’s premium electric vehicle brand, Zeekr, has officially announced the upcoming release of its first-ever hybrid model, the Zeekr 9X, which will be available for pre-order during the Chengdu Auto Show in late August 2025. The announcement was made public through the company’s interactive Q&A session titled “You Ask, I Answer,” published early on July 26. In the session, Zeekr shared key details regarding the product positioning, launch schedule, and the brand’s strategic outlook for this new vehicle.

The company confirmed that while pricing for the 9X has not yet been finalized, it will be officially disclosed once internal discussions are complete. Notably, Zeekr emphasized that its core vehicle strategy still revolves around pure electric vehicles, particularly for mid- to large-sized segments. However, with the 9X, Zeekr is introducing a new hybrid approach under the “super electric hybrid” label, which it plans to implement in its larger-sized offerings. Currently, the company has no immediate intentions to launch a fully electric (BEV) version of the 9X, although they are technically equipped to do so in the future if market demand shifts in that direction.

Technically, the Zeekr 9X is built on the SEA-S modular platform, known domestically in China as Haohan-S, and it incorporates the Haohan Hybrid powertrain. This advanced hybrid system combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged internal combustion engine with three silicon carbide electric motors, collectively delivering a massive output of 1,381 horsepower. This enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 240 km/h. According to Zeekr, this acceleration performance remains almost unchanged even as the battery level drops, with only a 0.2-second variation observed.

A standout feature of the 9X is its 70 kWh CATL Freevoy battery, one of the largest batteries installed in any plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) on the market today. The vehicle also supports 6C ultra-fast charging on a 900V architecture, allowing it to charge from 20% to 80% in approximately 9 minutes. In terms of range, the pure electric driving distance is rated at 380 kilometers under CLTC standards, and the total combined range surpasses 1,000 kilometers, making it suitable for both city use and long-distance travel.

Additionally, the 2.0T engine used in the hybrid system boasts a thermal efficiency above 46%, and Zeekr claims it delivers 5–10% better fuel economy compared to many 1.5T hybrid engines currently in use. The Zeekr 9X is scheduled to officially enter the Chinese market in the third quarter of 2025, following its initial debut and pre-sale period at the Chengdu Auto Show. While this model marks a significant step in Zeekr’s portfolio diversification, the company continues to keep its focus on innovation and flexibility, ready to pivot to full electrification if future conditions demand it.
