The 2025 Ford Expedition, a favored full-size SUV, has returned with a refresh aimed at boosting both style and functionality. Though this update is more of an evolution than a complete overhaul, it introduces new off-road capabilities and modern features. The Expedition maintains its core layout, offering a roomy three-row interior that allows it to hold its ground against competitors like the Chevrolet Tahoe. Notable enhancements include a rugged Tremor trim designed for off-road adventures, a 24-inch panoramic digital dashboard, and improved cargo area functionality with Ford’s Split Gate seating system and a foldable table for added utility.
The new Expedition is available in both standard and extended “Max” versions, with sizes similar to their predecessors. The standard Expedition measures 5,331 mm in length with a 3,112 mm wheelbase, while the Expedition Max is longer, measuring 5,631 mm with a 3,340 mm wheelbase. Both models share a width of 2,032 mm. The updated exterior styling features a cleaner grille, LED headlights, and a more rugged-looking front bumper. While the vehicle's overall profile remains familiar, the blacked-out pillars create a seamless look with the side windows, and the rear design showcases soft lines and black trim connecting the high-mounted taillights.
The Tremor trim stands out with its orange accents, additional LED lights on the grille, underbody protection, and 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires. It provides a top-notch 269 mm ground clearance, along with standard four-wheel drive and an electronic locking rear differential for improved traction.
Inside, the most significant changes include a switch from a portrait to a landscape infotainment screen and the introduction of a 24-inch digital instrument cluster. A key feature is the electric Ford Split Gate, which makes the cargo area more functional. The upper portion of the tailgate opens upwards, while the lower section drops down like a truck tailgate, similar to what’s seen on the Lincoln Navigator, with which the Expedition shares its platform. This gate can support up to 227 kg, making it useful as a seat, and the seatback can transform into a table for outdoor dining or work. Additionally, power outlets in the trunk and exterior lighting enhance convenience for camping trips.
The Expedition’s interior also gains more flexibility with practical features. The Flex Powered Console can slide back nearly 20 cm, offering added storage between the front seats and easier access for second-row passengers. An optional 40/20/40 split third-row bench allows for transporting long items, while device holders on the front headrests offer hands-free use of smartphones or tablets.
For performance, the Active, King Ranch, and Platinum trims come equipped with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that delivers 400 hp and 651 Nm of torque. The Tremor and Platinum options also offer a high-output version of this engine, increasing power to 440 hp and 691 Nm. Depending on the trim, power is sent to the rear wheels or all four via a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Expedition can tow up to 3,175 kg, or up to 4,355 kg with a weight-distributing hitch. For towing assistance, the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Backup Assist systems are included. Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving technology is also available on most trims, enhancing highway driving safety.
The 2025 Expedition is available for orders starting October 24, with first deliveries expected in the spring. Prices begin at $61,700, reflecting an increase of $6,070 over the previous model.
