Nissan is bringing a refreshed version of its popular X-Trail SUV to the Japanese market, introducing a range of updates in styling, technology, and trim options aimed at appealing to a broader spectrum of buyers. The mid-cycle facelift closely mirrors the changes made to the US-market Rogue in late 2023, but Japanese customers benefit from an even more extensive lineup. In addition to standard trims, Nissan offers the performance-oriented Nismo, the upscale Autech, and the rugged Sotoasobi package, which can be combined with the adventurous Rock Creek trim for a more off-road-ready configuration.
This latest update arrives three years after the X-Trail’s domestic debut, bringing the model more in line with its North American counterpart while introducing refinements designed to enhance both style and functionality. The most noticeable changes are visible on the front end, including a redesigned fascia, complemented by new paint options and updated wheel designs, which give the SUV a fresher, more modern appearance.
Inside, the cabin has been upgraded with a new infotainment system featuring Google Built-in, improved materials, and additional cameras that provide a 360-degree view along with the innovative Invisible Hood View function. These enhancements make maneuvering the SUV easier and safer in tight urban environments. Under the hood, the powertrain lineup remains largely unchanged, featuring the e-Power self-charging hybrid system and the 1.5-liter VC-Turbo gasoline engine, both of which continue to offer a balance of efficiency and performance.
Looking at the specific trims, Nissan has expanded the options for adventure-minded buyers. The Rock Creek trim makes its Japanese debut a year after its launch in the United States, offering a more rugged look and feel. Buyers can also opt for the Sotoasobi package, which adds a matte black hood wrap to protect against stone chips, bolt-on fender extensions by JAOS, and unique emblems. This rugged treatment has been offered previously on earlier X-Trail generations and was recently extended to the Caravan lineup.
The Autech trim has also been updated with both sporty and premium elements. Its exterior features a unique body kit with chrome accents, an exclusive grille design, additional blue-colored LEDs, and 20-inch alloy wheels. A contrasting Deep Ocean Blue paint option complements the chrome mirror caps, side moldings, and roof rails. Inside, the Autech offers quilted leather seats with Autech branding, dark wood accents, and blue stitching throughout the cabin. Buyers can further enhance the vehicle with the Autech Advanced package, which adds safety, technology, and comfort features, or the Sports Spec, which focuses on driving dynamics, incorporating performance dampers, sharper steering, and tuning for the e-4ORCE AWD system and the Vehicle Control Module (VCM). These refinements position the Autech trim as a luxurious yet capable alternative to the Nismo.
The facelifted Nissan X-Trail will go on sale in Japan starting September 18, with prices ranging from $26,100 to $40,400 depending on the trim. Special editions carry the following starting prices: Rock Creek at $32,200, Autech at $34,900, Nismo at $36,700, and the optional Sotoasobi package adds $1,600 to the cost, offering buyers a customizable SUV suited for a variety of lifestyles.
