Nio's Impressive Range Tests with the 2024 ET7

Nio has revealed the outcomes of three distinct range evaluations carried out this week using the 2024 ET7. These tests are remarkable not only because the electric vehicle achieved a distance of 1,070 km (665 miles) on a single charge but also due to the innovative semi-solid-state batteries that enabled these journeys.

The automaker disclosed the real-world results, detailing that one vehicle traveled from Shanghai to Xiamen covering 1,046 km before depleting its battery, another journeyed from Beijing to Hefei for a distance of 1,062 km before needing a recharge, and the third car traversed the full 1,070 km from Kunming to Zhanjiang without running out of power.

During its longest excursion, the ET7 was loaded with approximately 200 kg of cargo, climbed 1,875 meters in elevation, attained a maximum speed of 118 km/h, and maintained an average speed of 83.7 km/h. The entire journey took the vehicle 12.8 hours to complete.

The semi-solid-state battery played a pivotal role in the electric sedan's ability to achieve these remarkable accomplishments. With a storage capacity of 150 kWh, this battery shares the same dimensions as Nio's 100 kWh lithium-ion battery while weighing only 420 kg more, despite holding 50 percent more energy.

Semi-solid state batteries represent an advancement in lithium-ion technology, replacing the liquid electrolyte with a solid conductive material suspended in a liquid electrolyte. This innovation not only enables long-distance travel for electric vehicles but also aims to reduce the physical footprint of batteries in all EVs, making them lighter and more efficient.

The announcement of these impressive range tests coincides with the commencement of pre-orders for the 2024 ET7, which commenced on April 16. On April 25, Nio will officially unveil all specifications for the vehicle, allowing customers to finalize their orders, with deliveries scheduled to commence on April 30.
