Aiming to shake up the growing electric SUV market, Xpeng has unveiled its newest model, the G7, in China—a vehicle positioned as a compelling and high-tech alternative to the Tesla Model Y and Xiaomi’s newly launched YU7. What sets the G7 apart at first glance is its surprisingly affordable price, starting at ¥195,800 (around $27,325). That undercuts the Model Y by nearly ¥67,700 ($9,448), making the G7 an enticing option for value-conscious EV buyers. While some might find its design somewhat conservative or "generic," its impressive features, sleek styling, and advanced technology tell a different story.

At the front, the G7 showcases a shark-nose design featuring Xpeng’s signature “X Face,” defined by a full-width LED light bar placed above sharply contoured headlights with modern daytime running lights. Along the sides, you’ll notice flowing, aerodynamic bodywork paired with flush-mounted door handles, frameless side mirrors, and black cladding. Customers can select between 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels, all contributing to a sophisticated yet understated exterior. At the rear, the vehicle includes a power-operated tailgate, a sleek angular rear window, and wraparound taillights. A unique touch is the addition of blue lighting indicators that activate when the car is operating autonomously. The G7 is also slightly larger than the Model Y, measuring 4,892 mm in length, and offering more cargo flexibility without sacrificing wheelbase.

|Inside, the G7 features a minimalist and upscale interior, starting with a heated two-spoke steering wheel and a 15.6-inch floating display that serves as both the infotainment system and instrument panel. Even the base model includes power-adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, along with dual 50-watt wireless smartphone chargers, wood-accented armrests, and a panoramic glass roof. Enhancing the entertainment experience is a 20-speaker audio system, a digital rearview mirror, a built-in fragrance diffuser, and a 256-color ambient lighting system. There are also 39 distinct storage areas, including a washable frunk and a password-protected glove compartment.

Rear passengers aren’t overlooked either. They get ventilated, heated, and massaging outboard seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, and even fold-down trays with adjustable magnetic panels for holding smartphones or tablets. The G7 offers between 819 and 2,277 liters of cargo capacity, depending on seat configuration, adding to its family-friendly appeal.

Xpeng highlights its use of cutting-edge AI and sensor technology, calling the G7 the “world’s first AI car with L3 computing power.” Behind the marketing, the vehicle is equipped with radar, ultrasonic sensors, and multiple cameras, plus up to three Turing AI chips. This enables advanced features such as “human-machine co-driving,” high-speed intelligent assist, summon mode, and remote parking. The G7 also includes a full suite of driver assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, lane centering, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and traffic sign recognition. It can also perform automatic emergency braking at speeds up to 130 km/h.

One standout feature is the "light-chasing" panoramic head-up display, co-developed with Huawei. This augmented reality display projects up to an 87-inch image directly onto the windshield, aiding with navigation or even streaming videos when parked—turning the G7 into a mobile theater.

Buyers can choose from three trims: the 602 Long Battery Life Max, the 702 Ultra-Long Battery Life Max, and the 702 Ultra—names that correspond to their CLTC-rated ranges of 602 km and 702 km. All models come with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 292 hp and 450 Nm of torque, allowing the G7 to sprint from 0–100 km/h in around 6.5 seconds. It also supports 451 kW DC fast charging, which can deliver up to 436 km of range in just 10 minutes, or charge the battery from 10% to 80% in only 12 minutes.

With its strong performance, elegant design, and feature-rich interior, the Xpeng G7 could be a game-changer in the global EV landscape.
