GAC Aion has officially opened pre-orders for its new Aion i60, a compact SUV designed to offer flexibility through both range-extended (EREV) and pure electric (EV) versions. This marks another significant step in Aion’s expansion of its electric vehicle lineup. The range-extended model starts at around $17,800, while the pure electric version begins at approximately 119,800 yuan ($16,800). The Aion i60 is positioned as a five-seat compact SUV, built to appeal to families and urban drivers who seek a balance of performance, practicality, and energy efficiency.
One of the key highlights of the Aion i60 is its dual powertrain system, which allows customers to choose between full electric mobility or a hybrid-like setup with an onboard generator. The range-extended version delivers an impressive 210 km of pure electric range under the CLTC cycle and supports 3C fast-charging technology, ensuring shorter charging times. This version provides the convenience of a petrol engine to recharge the battery during long trips, extending the total range to an impressive 1,240 km while maintaining a fuel consumption rate of just 5.5 L/100 km in charge-sustaining mode.
On the outside, the Aion i60 displays a modern and sophisticated design. The front fascia is defined by deep, upward-sweeping LED headlights paired with dual light sources and a slim daytime running light strip that spans across the front, giving the SUV a unified and futuristic look. A lower air intake and front projector lights emphasize its dynamic styling. From the side, the vehicle takes inspiration from the Aion V, though it is slightly larger. Measuring 4,685 mm long, 1,854 mm wide, and 1,660 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,775 mm, the i60 offers enhanced cabin space compared to its sibling. It also comes with semi-hidden door handles, blue-lit side mirrors, and a choice of 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels.
At the rear, the SUV is instantly recognizable by its full-width LED taillight bar, featuring a dual-layer light design and a self-illuminating Aion logo at the center. Subtle blue lights, matching the side mirrors, add a futuristic touch. The electric tailgate includes a low sill height for easy loading, enhancing practicality.
Inside, the Aion i60 combines premium materials with minimalist styling. The cabin adopts a two-tone upper and lower layout with metallic accents, and buyers can choose between Oatmeal White, Warm Velvet Light Brown, or Tahiti Grey interiors. A 32-color ambient lighting system creates a customizable mood. The dashboard includes a square floating central display, a digital instrument cluster, and a scroll-wheel steering wheel. Two wireless charging pads are integrated below the touchscreen for convenience.
In terms of technology, the SUV features GAC’s advanced GSD intelligent driving assistance system, supporting NDA (Navigation Driving Assist) and HPA (Intelligent Parking Assist). These systems enable semi-autonomous capabilities such as lane changes, ramp entry and exit, and hands-free parking.
For performance, the range-extended model uses a 1.5-liter engine generating 74 kW alongside an electric motor that delivers 241 hp. The battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes, reflecting GAC’s latest advancements in fast-charging efficiency. Meanwhile, the pure electric variant comes with two motor options—150 kW or 165 kW—and offers three battery capacities: 47.8 kWh, 62.3 kWh, and 75.3 kWh, corresponding to 400 km, 530 km, and 650 km of range, respectively.
Overall, the Aion i60 represents a strong combination of modern design, cutting-edge technology, and flexible powertrain choices, positioning it as a serious contender in China’s rapidly growing electric SUV market.
