On July 17, Buick unveiled additional technical details about its upcoming Electra L7 EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) sedan, highlighting its impressive performance and efficiency figures. The Electra L7 promises a comprehensive range of 1,400 kilometers, a pure electric range of 302 kilometers, and a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of just 5.9 seconds. With a starting price expected around 300,000 yuan (approximately $41,800 USD), the L7 will directly rival other premium EREV sedans in the Chinese market, including the Stelato S9.

Electra is a newly introduced NEV (New Energy Vehicle) sub-brand launched in April 2025 by SAIC-GM’s Buick division, reflecting the brand’s strategic decision to transition to selling only NEVs in China from 2025 onward. The Electra L7 is one of the flagship models of this initiative, designed to blend cutting-edge technology with luxury styling.

At the heart of the Electra L7’s EREV powertrain is a 1.5-liter turbocharged internal combustion engine (model LD3), capable of producing 154 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. This engine supports a dual-motor setup: a 164 hp electric motor at the front and a more powerful 338 hp motor at the rear, together providing robust all-wheel-drive capabilities. The system is powered by a 40.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, helping to keep fuel consumption remarkably low at just 0.5 liters per 100 km under certain driving conditions. The vehicle’s top speed reaches 200 km/h.

Technologically, the Electra L7 is well-equipped. At the front, a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and four ultrasonic radars on the bumper support the Momenta Level 2 advanced driving assistance system (ADAS), enhancing safety and semi-autonomous driving functionality. The car also becomes a trailblazer in digital cockpit technology, being the first mass-produced vehicle globally to integrate the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8775P smart cockpit chip, enabling enhanced connectivity and infotainment experiences.

The Electra L7 is categorized as a medium-to-large luxury sedan, constructed on Buick’s Xiaoyao architecture, which supports multiple vehicle types (sedans, SUVs, MPVs) and various powertrain configurations (BEV, PHEV, EREV), as well as drivetrain layouts (FWD, RWD, AWD). Its dimensions measure 5,032 mm in length, 1,952 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height, with a generous 3,000 mm wheelbase, ensuring ample cabin space.

For charging, the Electra L7 uses a 6C ultra-fast charging LFP battery system supported by a 900V high-voltage platform, allowing up to 350 km of range to be added in just 10 minutes—a remarkable convenience for drivers needing rapid recharging.

Design-wise, the vehicle embraces a sleek fastback silhouette, incorporating hidden door handles, chrome-plated lower window trims, and rear privacy glass. Its through-type LED taillight and ducktail rear spoiler contribute to a dynamic, aerodynamic appearance. The Electra L7 rides on 235/50 R19 wheels and has a curb weight between 2,105 and 2,140 kg, depending on trim levels. With its blend of high-end styling, extended range, and state-of-the-art technology, the Electra L7 aims to make a strong impact on the growing Chinese EREV market.
