Huawei’s automotive brand Aito has officially begun pre-sales for the all-electric version of its M8 large SUV, with a starting price of around $52,000. The vehicle is scheduled to officially launch in August, and Huawei is offering generous early bird incentives to attract buyers. These include a $700 deposit that doubles to $1,400 off the final price, and a limited-time complimentary upgrade to the new Night Violet exterior, typically valued at $1,120.
The all-electric Aito M8 EV joins the existing M8 lineup, which already includes an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) version. While both share the same vehicle platform, the EV variant introduces subtle but distinctive design features. Staying true to Aito’s “Kunpeng” design philosophy, the M8 EV incorporates a redesigned front bumper intake grille, distinguishing it from its EREV sibling. The vehicle retains its dual-lens LED headlights, which are connected by a chrome strip and integrated with functional air ducts and auxiliary driving indicator lights. A 192-line LiDAR sensor is positioned on the roof, enhancing its autonomous driving capabilities. Additionally, the M8 EV includes a front trunk, offering added utility.
From the side profile, the SUV features new 21-inch blacked-out alloy wheels, wrapped in premium Pirelli tires. Multi-spoke wheel options are also available for customization. Dimensionally, the EV mirrors the EREV model, measuring 5,190 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,795 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,105 mm. It is offered in both 5-seat and 6-seat configurations, making it suitable for families and executives alike.
The rear design of the M8 EV remains largely consistent with the EREV, but adds a new ISD intelligent interactive taillight system, along with dual chrome strips across the body and additional indicator lights. Customers can also choose a new Truffle Brown interior option to complement the newly introduced Night Violet exterior.
Technologically, the M8 EV is a significant leap forward. It will be one of the first vehicles equipped with Huawei's Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS 4, which supports both intelligent driving assistance and automated parking. A major highlight is the debut of Huawei’s DriveONE high-voltage 7-in-1 electric drive system, which includes dual-path redundant power supply—an innovation aimed at enhancing safety and performance. This system will be available in single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive formats. The RWD version produces 304 hp, while the AWD version features a 215 hp front motor and a 304 hp rear motor.
All variants are powered by a robust 100 kWh CATL battery pack, delivering an impressive 705 km of CLTC-rated range. The system is supported by Huawei’s Whale 800V high-voltage battery platform, ensuring faster charging and high efficiency. According to Richard Yu, Huawei’s Executive Director and CEO of Terminal BG, the DriveONE system will save up to 30% of space in the cabin and trunk, offer 92.2% efficiency, and provide the redundancy needed for advanced assisted driving systems—placing the Aito M8 EV at the forefront of smart electric mobility.
