Genesis Unveils Stunning G80 EV Magma Concept at 2024 Beijing Auto Show

Genesis unveiled an electrifying rendition of its performance-centric sedan during the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. Dubbed the Genesis G80 EV Magma concept, this variant departs from its signature orange hue in favor of a China-targeted Acme Blue, complemented by fresh 21-inch alloy wheels engineered for aerodynamics, and a carbon fiber bodykit. Departing from past conventions, this concept eschews the familiar orange for a striking Acme Blue. The choice of Acme Blue wasn't arbitrary; rather, it was selected because blue represents the hottest segment of a flame, according to Genesis.

SangYup Lee, Genesis Global Design's Head, asserts that this new color demonstrates the Magma program's freedom from being "constrained by a single color or form." Drawing inspiration from blue flames renowned for their high-temperature burn, Acme Blue adds a distinctive touch. Additionally, the concept boasts 21-inch alloy wheels designed not only to reduce unsprung weight but also to enhance brake cooling with their aerodynamic profile. The carbon fiber bodykit, akin to its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, features widened fenders and extensive use of carbon fiber. However, there are subtle modifications indicating the zero-emission nature of this specific Magma variant.

Enhancements include a fully covered Crest grille for improved aerodynamics and solar panels on the roof, purportedly extending the driving range between charges. The rear design sees a more subdued ducktail spoiler compared to the ICE version, and the absence of quad tailpipes from the diffuser, replaced by an integrated F1-style light. Inside, a blend of Alcantara and quilted leather upholstery, accented by blue-finished carbon fiber inserts, creates an upscale ambiance.

Genesis refrained from divulging the specifics of the fully electric powertrain but hinted that the G80 EV Magma surpasses its traditional ICE counterpart in power. While the G80 Magma's twin-turbo V6 churns out an estimated 500 hp, a dual electric motor configuration could easily exceed this figure.

Although introduced as a concept, SangYup Lee describes the G80 EV Magma as a "game-changing addition to the lineup," suggesting a potential production model. However, it remains unclear whether this forthcoming electric performance sedan will be exclusive to China or if it will extend to other markets such as Europe and North America. Notably, the V6-powered Genesis G80 Magma is a limited production offering reserved solely for the Middle East. The prospect of this concept transitioning into production remains uncertain.
