Ford is advancing the eco-conscious trend in van life with the introduction of the Tourneo Connect Plug-In Hybrid in Europe. Scheduled to hit the market later this year, this van incorporates a plug-in hybrid powertrain comprising a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine, a "high-voltage" battery, an electric motor, and a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Available in both the five-passenger Tourneo Connect and the seven-passenger Grand Tourneo Connect, the plug-in hybrid powertrain will be offered across various trims including Trend, Titanium, and Active.

Even the base-level Trend trim boasts impressive features such as a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Additionally, customers can expect familiar driver assistance systems like Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane-Keeping Assist, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist.

Although Ford remained somewhat secretive about specific details, they confirmed that the model would deliver a combined output of 148 hp and 350 Nm of torque. However, the highlight lies in its electric-only range of approximately 110 km. Despite this, recharging the battery may not be a swift process as the model supports a DC fast charging rate of 50 kW, which is faster than the AC rate of up to 11 kW.

To optimize battery usage, the van offers four distinct settings: EV Auto, EV Now, EV Later, and EV Reserve. While the first three settings are self-explanatory, EV Reserve allows drivers to reserve a specified level of battery energy for later use.

Interested buyers can place orders for the Tourneo Connect Plug-In Hybrid this summer, with deliveries expected to commence in the fourth quarter. Rich Hughes of Ford Europe expressed, "Whether it's the school run, embarking on adventures, or even using it as a work vehicle, the Tourneo Connect PHEV's generous electric driving range enables it to electrify many of the journeys in our customers' busy lifestyles."
