The upcoming 2027 KGM Musso dual-cab ute has officially been revealed in South Korea, offering an early look at the model ahead of its planned Australian debut in mid-2026. Formerly sold under the SsangYong name, the Musso marks its first major update in nearly eight years and introduces KGM’s new, sharper design language, along with interior revisions and added technology.
While the latest Musso is not considered an entirely new vehicle, it has been extensively reworked. The overall proportions closely resemble the current generation, but newly designed body panels give the 2027 model a distinctly tougher and more modern appearance. Unlike Toyota’s latest HiLux, which retained much of its existing cabin structure while refreshing its exterior and interior, the Musso appears to have undergone more noticeable exterior changes, including what seem to be newly designed doors and trim elements.
The soft, rounded styling of the outgoing Musso has been replaced with a far more rugged look. At the front, a bold five-slot grille dominates the fascia, flanked by prominent black bumper cladding that reinforces the ute’s off-road-ready image. Squared wheel-arch flares feature a distinctive notch that houses a front reflector, while chunky plastic detailing behind the front wheels adds visual muscle similar to that seen on rivals like the Ford Ranger. Revised mirror caps further complement the Musso’s more aggressive stance.
High-specification versions of the new Musso have been showcased with premium exterior equipment, including 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels, LED projector-style headlights, and a unique grille and bumper design. These variants also gain extra body-colour highlights, LED fog lights, and a lower bumper lip for a more polished finish. Meanwhile, leaked images from Korean automotive site Autospy suggest that entry-level models will feature smaller 17-inch wheels, simpler exterior detailing, a higher-clearance front bumper, and reflector-style LED headlights.
Although official interior images have yet to be released, leaked photographs indicate that the cabin updates will be evolutionary rather than dramatic. The dashboard layout, steering wheel design, and twin digital screens appear largely carried over from the existing Musso. However, revised centre console designs are visible, including an electronic gear selector on higher trims. KGM branding now replaces the old SsangYong logo on the steering wheel, and traditional climate-control dials with LED displays have returned, replacing some of the touch-sensitive controls introduced previously. High-grade models also feature a two-tone brown and black leather interior, along with a driver attention monitoring system mounted on the steering column.
Design cues for the new Musso align closely with recent KGM models such as the Torres and Actyon, as well as the Musso EV already on sale in Australia. Despite sharing a name, the Musso EV is mechanically unrelated, as it is built on a monocoque SUV platform, while the diesel Musso will continue to use a ladder-frame chassis.
Mechanical specifications have not yet been confirmed, but Korean reports suggest the ute may receive an upgraded version of the existing 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine. Output is expected to increase to match the current Rexton’s 148kW and 441Nm, up from the Musso’s existing 133kW and 420Nm. Details regarding rear suspension options remain unclear, though leaked information points to the continued availability of both standard- and long-wheelbase variants with similar tub sizes to the outgoing model.
Further details on the 2027 KGM Musso are expected in early January 2026, ahead of its Australian showroom arrival later that year.
