Refined, Refocused, and Still V6: Inside the 2026 Lexus IS Refresh

A refreshed Lexus IS sedan will soon be arriving at dealerships across the United States, extending the lifespan of one of the brand’s longest-running nameplates. Originally unveiled in Japan in September, the updated 2026 model introduces a series of refinements that touch nearly every aspect of the car, including its exterior styling, interior design, chassis tuning, and overall lineup structure. Rather than a full redesign, Lexus has chosen to carefully evolve the IS, giving it a more modern appearance and improved driving characteristics while simplifying the range of available trims.

One of the most significant changes for 2026 is the reorganization of the model lineup, which has had a noticeable impact on pricing. Lexus has eliminated the four-cylinder IS 300 as well as the V6-powered IS 300 AWD, effectively making the IS 350 the new entry-level variant. As a result, the starting price climbs substantially, rising from $41,830 to $46,795, including destination charges. While this nearly $5,000 increase appears steep at first glance, price differences between comparable trims are more modest. The F Sport Design model sees a $1,640 increase, while the fully loaded F Sport version rises by just over $2,000.

Despite the higher starting point, the IS 350 continues to hold its own against key competitors. For comparison, the BMW 330i begins at $47,500 and jumps to $49,500 when equipped with all-wheel drive. Unlike the BMW’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower, the Lexus comes standard with a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 delivering 314 horsepower. That traditional V6 powertrain remains a distinguishing feature in a segment increasingly dominated by smaller, forced-induction engines.

Although the current generation of the Lexus IS dates back to 2013, the 2026 update marks its third major refresh, following previous revisions in 2017 and 2020. The overall silhouette remains familiar, but the front end has been sharpened with a revised bumper, an updated spindle grille, and reshaped air intakes that give the sedan a more aggressive stance. Elsewhere, changes are subtle yet purposeful. New standard 19-inch wheel designs are introduced, and buyers can select red brake calipers or a more pronounced ducktail-style rear spoiler. Lexus has also replaced the traditional trunk badge with spelled-out branding. Exterior paint choices largely carry over, though a new shade called Wind joins the lineup.

Inside the cabin, the transformation is more dramatic. A redesigned dashboard, updated door panels, and a reworked center console create a more contemporary and cohesive interior environment. The centerpiece is a new 12.3-inch touchscreen, complemented by physical climate control switches for improved usability. Turbine-inspired air vents add visual flair, while a new Radiant Red interior option and available Forged Bamboo trim provide fresh customization choices. Technology upgrades include four USB-C ports, wireless charging, and an optional 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system. Safety is enhanced through the latest Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which brings updated driver-assistance features.

For early buyers, Lexus is offering a limited Special Appearance Package on the first 350 IS 350 F Sport models sold in the US. This package features a matte Hakugin White exterior, exclusive forged BBS wheels, premium lighting, and a comprehensive set of luxury and performance options.

Mechanically, the US-market IS lineup has been simplified to a single engine choice. Every 2026 IS is powered by the same 3.5-liter V6, paired with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Notably absent are both the V8-powered IS 500 and the hybrid IS 300h, the latter remaining exclusive to Japan. Chassis refinements include revised steering and suspension tuning aimed at delivering smoother responses and more consistent feedback, reinforcing Lexus’s focus on driver confidence and everyday refinement. The updated IS is scheduled to reach US showrooms in early 2026.
