The second vehicle in Voyah’s Taishan lineup, known as the Taishan 8, has recently surfaced through documents released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). This new model is a five-seat plug-in hybrid SUV and offers an early look at its mechanical specifications and overall positioning. Regulatory filings confirm that the Taishan 8 features a dual-motor electrified drivetrain and is capable of reaching a top speed of 200 km/h. These disclosures provide insight into how Voyah plans to expand the Taishan family following the debut of its first flagship model.
For context, Voyah introduced the initial Taishan series SUV just last month. That vehicle, a six-seat plug-in hybrid positioned as a flagship offering, entered the market with pricing ranging from approximately $53,200 to $65,000. It also made headlines as the first Chinese-produced vehicle to feature a sophisticated three-chamber air suspension system paired with Electronic Damper Control, along with an advanced 16-degree bidirectional independent rear-wheel steering setup. Given this technological foundation, expectations are high for the Taishan 8, which is likely to inherit many of the premium features found in its larger sibling.
The first Taishan model comes equipped with an impressive suite of technology, including Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4.0 advanced driver-assistance system and the HarmonyOS Cockpit 5.0 infotainment platform. Additional highlights include support for 5C ultra-fast charging, 22-way power-adjustable zero-gravity seats, and a high-end 32-speaker sound system. While Voyah has not yet officially confirmed the full equipment list for the Taishan 8, it is widely expected that many of these features will carry over to the new five-seat variant.
In terms of size, the Taishan 8 is slightly more compact than the six-seat Taishan flagship. The newly revealed model measures 5200 mm in length, 2025 mm in width, and 1814 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3090 mm. By comparison, the larger Taishan flagship stretches to 5230 mm long and rides on a 3120 mm wheelbase. Visually, the Taishan 8 maintains Voyah’s recognizable design cues. At the front, it adopts the brand’s signature waterfall-style grille, creating a strong and elegant first impression. A roof-mounted lidar sensor is clearly visible, signaling a focus on advanced driving assistance capabilities. Semi-hidden door handles help maintain a clean profile along the sides.
At the rear, the design continues to emphasize brand identity, with the “VOYAH” name spelled out between the taillight clusters. Buyers will also be able to personalize their vehicles through a range of optional exterior features, including electric side steps, side-mounted radar units, different wheel designs, alternative door handle styles, and customized tail badges.
Under the hood, the Taishan 8 combines a 148-horsepower gasoline engine with two electric motors, offered in two distinct power configurations. The lower-output version features electric motors rated at 150 kW and 288 horsepower, paired with a lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by Xinwangda. This variant has a curb weight of 2,765 kg. The higher-output version upgrades to electric motors delivering 201 horsepower and 308 horsepower, using a ternary lithium battery sourced from the CATL–FAW joint venture.
The high-power Taishan 8 can be equipped with either 21-inch or 22-inch wheels, resulting in curb weights of 2,790 kg and 2,815 kg, respectively. According to WLTC standards, fuel consumption for these versions is rated at 0.34 L/100 km and 0.38 L/100 km. Across the entire Taishan 8 lineup, the top speed remains capped at 200 km/h. As of now, Voyah has yet to disclose detailed information regarding battery capacity or all-electric driving range.
