The 2026 Buick Electra Encasa MPV—developed through the long-standing partnership between SAIC and General Motors—is set to officially enter the Chinese market on December 5. The model was first revealed to the public at the 2025 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, marking its global premiere. As the inaugural multi-purpose vehicle within Buick’s new-energy Electra lineup, the Encasa represents a significant milestone for the brand. It is constructed on Buick’s “Xiaoyao” platform, an architecture designed to support the company’s latest electrified and intelligent vehicle technologies.

Visually, the Electra Encasa adopts a clean and modern styling approach. The front end is characterised by a closed-off grille—a common feature among new-energy vehicles—flanked by sleek, slim LED headlights that enhance its futuristic appearance. Inside the cabin, Buick has placed a strong emphasis on digital interfaces and passenger comfort. The dashboard incorporates a three-screen arrangement, creating an immersive tech-forward environment for the driver and front passenger. Those seated in the back are offered a generous 21-inch 4K entertainment display, improving long-distance travel comfort and entertainment options. Additional standout features include a 50-inch augmented-reality head-up display that projects key information across the driver’s field of view, as well as touch panels integrated into the rear seats for personalised control of cabin settings. Other convenience features—such as gesture-activated sliding doors, multi-way adjustable seating, and an air suspension system—further elevate the MPV’s luxury credentials.

In terms of physical dimensions, the Electra Encasa stands out as the most sizeable Buick vehicle available in the Chinese market. It stretches 5260 mm in length, offers a width ranging from 2000 to 2023 mm depending on configuration, measures 1835 mm in height, and rides on a substantial 3160 mm wheelbase. These measurements position it firmly in the large MPV category, providing spacious accommodation across all seating rows.

The introduction of the Electra Encasa follows the earlier rollout of the Electra L7, a mid-to-large extended-range sedan launched in 2025. The L7 was the first model to carry the Electra name and features an EREV powertrain paired with advanced driving-assistance technology developed by Momenta. Together, the Electra L7 and Encasa illustrate how Buick is leveraging its Xiaoyao architecture to support a variety of vehicle types, from sedans to high-capacity MPVs.

With its impressive size, plug-in hybrid system, and technologically rich interior, the Electra Encasa positions itself among the most advanced MPVs in Buick’s Chinese portfolio. Its electric-only driving capability of 224 km and a combined range reaching up to 1320 km make it a strong competitor in China’s rapidly expanding market for electrified MPVs, standing alongside other premium plug-in hybrid offerings.
