Contrary to earlier reports suggesting the end of the GTX brand, Volkswagen has surprised enthusiasts by unveiling three new GTX models within a week, including the debut bi-motor ID.Buzz. This turnaround marks a significant shift in VW's strategy, breathing new life into the performance-oriented lineup.

In typical GTX fashion, the ID.Buzz subtly hints at its enhanced performance credentials, with design cues that offer subtle nods to its potent capabilities. Sporting a revised lower bumper reminiscent of the sporty ID.3, along with a diamond-mesh grille and gloss black mirror caps, the exterior exudes a sense of understated athleticism. Exclusive to the GTX variant is the striking Cherry red color option, available in a single hue or paired with silver for a two-tone effect, adding to the model's distinctive allure.

Inside, the GTX continues its performance-themed approach with a black headliner and an abundance of black plastics, setting it apart from its non-GTX counterparts. The cabin features microfleece seats with red piping, complemented by red stitching on the GTX-branded steering wheel, signaling its sporting intentions. Offering versatility, the ID.Buzz GTX is available in various seating configurations, with options for both short and long wheelbases to accommodate up to seven occupants comfortably. Advanced technology, including VW's ChatGPT-powered infotainment system and a sizable 12.9-inch touchscreen, further enhances the driving experience.

Underneath its sleek exterior, the ID.Buzz GTX shares similarities with the ID.7 GTX wagon, featuring a robust powertrain configuration. With a rear-mounted 282 hp motor and an additional 108 hp motor at the front, the all-wheel-drive system delivers a combined output of 335 hp. Depending on the chosen wheelbase and seating configuration, the GTX comes equipped with either a 79 kWh or an 86 kWh battery, offering rapid charging capabilities to replenish the battery from 20 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.

Despite its considerable power, the ID.Buzz GTX achieves a respectable acceleration time of 6.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. This performance is complemented by an enhanced towing capacity, with the long-wheelbase variant capable of towing up to 1,600 kg and the short-wheelbase model capable of hauling up to 1,800 kg.

While European and UK customers can expect delivery of the GTX this summer, North American buyers will have to wait for the bi-motor, all-wheel-drive variant without the GTX trimmings, slated for release at a later date. Nevertheless, the ID.Buzz GTX represents a significant step forward for Volkswagen, showcasing the brand's commitment to electrification and performance innovation.
