The New Citroen C3 Aircross Revealed

Citroen has officially introduced the new C3 Aircross today, presenting a fusion of existing Stellantis products. Departing from its previous curved design, it adopts a more angular aesthetic, reminiscent of the boxy style already observed in the smaller C3 hatch.

This updated model shares the 'Smart' CMP platform with the C3 hatch, featuring Citroen's controversial new corporate logo prominently displayed on the grille, which sports a mesh pattern resembling the brand's double-chevron badge. While bearing resemblance to the South American-market Aircross unveiled a year ago, the new C3 Aircross distinguishes itself with unique door handles and a revised Citroen nose.

In terms of packaging, the Aircross closely mirrors the recently revealed Opel Frontera, which also utilizes the same architecture and competes directly with the Citroen in the European market. Although precise wheelbase measurements remain undisclosed, Citroen asserts that the Aircross boasts the largest wheelbase in its class, facilitating the inclusion of a third row of seats—a feature yet to be confirmed for the Opel SUV.

The overall length has increased by 240 mm compared to its predecessor, extending the bumper-to-bumper dimension to 4,390 mm. Citroen highlights that the more upright rear window enhances headroom for third-row passengers.

Despite its raised ground clearance, roof bars, and body moldings, the Aircross, like its small SUV counterparts, lacks genuine off-road capabilities. While specific powertrain details are currently unavailable, Citroen confirms that combustion, hybrid, and electric options will be offered.

Drawing from the Stellantis parts inventory, the C3 Aircross is expected to feature the group's 1.2-liter turbo engine, both with and without 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. Electric vehicle enthusiasts can anticipate a fully electric variant powered by a single 154 hp electric motor delivering a range of 402 km.
