At last, BMW has revealed a manual G29-code Z4 model. The eight-speed ZF automatic will be replaced with a six-speed manual in the Z4 M40i's availability in America and Europe starting in the spring of next year. For the time being at least, the four-cylinder sDrive30i will only be available as an automatic.

In order to produce a shift feel that rivals the Toyota's, BMW decided to design its own linkage and short lever rather than just bolting the Supra's manual package into the Z4. The front anti-roll bar is stiffer, the adaptive dampers have been retuned, the electric steering has been redesigned, and the rear axle assembly and M differential are carried over from the M240i.

The 3.0-liter inline six engine under the hiid is rated for 382 horsepower and 500 Nm. We don't have BMW weight statistics, but since the Supra weighs about 23 kg less than the other car, it will have a better power to weight ratio.

If you were to row your own gears, the Supra's zero to 97 km/h time would take 0.3 seconds longer, meaning the Z4 would arrive in 4.2 seconds as opposed to 3:09.

Regrettably, the price will also increase. According to Motor Trend, BMW dealers will add an additional $3,500 to the price of the third pedal, bringing the 2024 Z4 M40i's starting price from $66,300 to nearly $70,000.
