Xiaomi has officially launched the YU7, its first-ever electric SUV, following the success of its SU7 sedan. Marking a major step into the competitive EV market, the YU7 is now available in China, and it brings with it an appealing combination of style, performance, technology, and aggressive pricing. The model arrives in three configurations—Standard, Pro, and Max—each designed to meet a range of performance and budget needs.
The entry-level YU7 Standard starts at RMB 253,500 (approximately $34,500), offering an impressive CLTC-rated range of 830–835 km and powered by a single electric motor delivering 315–316 horsepower and 528 Nm of torque. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, matching Tesla’s Model Y RWD variant. Power comes from a 96.3 kWh LFP battery, with a top speed capped at 240 km/h.
The mid-range YU7 Pro, priced at RMB 279,900 (around $37,900), features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system pushing 489 hp and 690 Nm of torque, cutting the 0–100 km/h sprint down to 4.3 seconds. However, its range slightly decreases to 760–770 km.
Topping the lineup is the YU7 Max, which starts at RMB 329,900 (roughly $44,700). This performance-focused model features an upgraded AWD system with a massive 681 hp and 866 Nm of torque, enabling it to hit 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 253 km/h. Its 101.7 kWh NMC battery offers a 760–770 km range, and ultra-fast charging allows 620 km of range in just 15 minutes, with 10% to 80% charge possible in 12 minutes.
Design-wise, the YU7 is sleek and aerodynamic, measuring 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide, and 1,600 mm tall, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase—slightly shorter than the Tesla Model X but with a longer wheelbase. The front features a “shark nose” design and waterdrop-style headlights, while the rear boasts halo taillights and dual spoilers. It’s also highly aerodynamic, with 10 airflow channels, 19 vents, and a drag coefficient of 0.245.
The interior is minimalist but packed with advanced tech, including a 16.1-inch infotainment screen and a massive 43.3-inch panoramic HyperVision display, which serves multiple roles such as speedometer, navigation, and passenger entertainment. Zero-gravity Nappa leather front seats offer 10-point massage, power recline, and one-touch adjustments, while rear passengers enjoy adjustable seats, climate controls, and dual screens. With the seats folded, cargo space expands from 678 liters to 1,758 liters, plus an additional 141-liter frunk.
All trims benefit from a double wishbone front and five-link rear suspension system with adaptive air springs, allowing up to 222 mm of ground clearance. There’s also continuous damper control, four-piston Brembo brakes, and Level 2+ driver assistance. The ADAS system is powered by roof-mounted LiDAR, a 4D millimeter-wave radar, 11 HD cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
In terms of market competition, the YU7 undercuts Tesla’s Model Y, which starts at RMB 263,000. Despite Tesla’s slightly higher pricing, Xiaomi's SUV matches or surpasses it in many key areas like range, performance, and tech. And consumers are noticing—Xiaomi reported over 289,000 pre-orders within the first hour of opening sales. Early buyers placing a ¥5,000 deposit before July 31 will receive a ¥66,000 discount (approx. $8,800), making the deal even more enticing.
The Xiaomi YU7 enters the electric SUV market not just as a competitor—but as a serious disruptor, combining elegant design, advanced tech, and real-world practicality, with a price tag that may turn heads globally.
