The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has recently disclosed the battery options for the revamped version of Geely's Zeekr 001, shedding light on the technological advancements and choices available to consumers.

Zeekr 001

Zeekr, a relatively new high-end brand introduced by the Geely Group in 2021, has been making waves with its innovative designs and forward-thinking approach. Built upon the SEA modular architecture, all Zeekr vehicles embody cutting-edge technology and performance. With an ambitious sales target of 230,000 units for 2024 and a growing presence in international markets, Zeekr is poised for significant growth and impact in the automotive industry.

The facelifted Zeekr 001 will offer two battery options: Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) and ternary Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC). This marks a notable departure from its predecessor, as it introduces the option of an LFP pack alongside the previously available NMC variant. Both batteries are produced through a joint venture between Geely and CATL, headquartered in Sichuan, China.

The LFP battery, with a capacity of 95 kWh, represents a significant milestone for Zeekr, as it becomes the second model in the lineup to feature this technology after the 007 sedan. Despite its lower energy density, the LFP battery offers advantages in terms of longevity and cost-effectiveness. However, its bulkier nature results in a weight of 720 kg, occupying a substantial portion of the car's curb weight. The Zeekr 001 equipped with this battery offers varying range options depending on the powertrain configuration, ranging from 722 km to 675 km.

On the other hand, the ternary NMC battery, boasting a capacity of 100 kWh, offers a higher energy density and reduced weight at 606 kg. Available for both RWD and 4WD models, this battery option provides enhanced performance and range, with the RWD variant capable of covering 750 km on a single charge, while the 4WD variant offers a range of 705 km.

The facelifted Zeekr 001 showcases minor exterior adjustments, including new bumpers, optional LiDAR integration on the roof, updated rims, and fresh body colors. Its dimensions remain consistent with the previous model, maintaining a sleek and contemporary aesthetic.

However, the most significant enhancements lie within the powertrain, with the RWD model featuring an e-motor delivering 310 kW of power, a notable increase from the previous iteration. The 4WD model takes performance to new heights with a staggering 580 kW output, distributed between a 270 kW motor in the front and a 310 kW motor in the rear, enabling impressive acceleration and dynamic driving capabilities. Additionally, the new variant boasts a towing capacity of up to 2000 kg, further enhancing its versatility and utility.

The forthcoming release of the Zeekr 001 in the Chinese market signals a new era of innovation and excellence for the brand, with plans for international expansion on the horizon. While precise details regarding its global rollout remain undisclosed, Zeekr's commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric mobility ensures that the facelifted 001 will continue to captivate audiences worldwide with its advanced technology and exceptional performance.
