Toyota is very busy these days. Its just some month ago that this company has a new version of Subaru with the BRZ mark on it, but again this company relieved a new sporty vehicle. It’s the GR 86.
Although it is just 200,000 unites of Original version have been sold, Toyota showed us the more powerful version of this. It seems that this company wasn’t satisfied with it. Not just bigger engine is used but also, it had played with weight of the GR 86 too.
By the new efforts of Toyota, the first thigh which was removed, is the fat of it. This sporty car has now aluminum for the roof and fenders too. Also, the front seats have new look too. We can’t miss the mufflers as well. By the new engineered roof, this vehicle has a lower center of gravity, which would provide a better handling for the owners. 50 present of improved stability and the same geometrical dimensions. It's 4,265 millimeters (167.9 inches) long, 1,775 mm (69.8 in) wide, and 1,310 mm (51.5 in) tall, with the wheelbase measuring 2,575 mm (101.3 in). and with the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the GR weighs up to 1,270 kg. (you can have the automatic transmission too.)
The main power comes from its gasoline engine. In fact, it’s a bigger engine with capacity of 2.4-liter (the old one was 2.0 liter of capacity). This is naturally aspirated engine (four-banger) with 232 hp of power and also 250 Nm of torque at 3,700 rpm. This means a better acceleration in compare with previous number. Now this 2022 Toyota GR 86 hits 100 km/h in jut 6.3 seconds. (there are others which do better by the way!)
The benefit of this new engine is not just its power. As company claims the new 2.4-liter engine brought to GR "smooth, stress-free sensations from low to high rpms." And, the other factor on this vehicle is improved aerodynamics of it. This Gr 86 just by concentrating of the flow behavior has improved the stability and steering too. The suspension system also, plays its role too. This one has now a MacPherson strut while the rear setup boasts a double-wishbone setup, with both axles features 18-inch wheels wrapped in 215/40 tires. GR Yaris is the other project of this company in the same way, which brought proud to Toyota.
If we say that GR86 and BRZ are inseparable siblings, that could partly be true. Both have almost same exterior design. But what can distinguish them is the front grille design. This design on GR was used on GR Yaris too. Some changes in the LED highlights could be seen too. But inside is the same as the BRZ, if we don’t see the different seat upholstery and GR badging on the steering wheel. This car has also eight-inch infotainment, the same air vents and seats or the switchgear and pedals, all of them are the same as the BRZ.
Even the first come of the Toyota GR 86 is almost new, but the second gen. of this will be soon available in Japan Markets this fall. And you’re in North America and wait for it, you should still wait more! Its not a certain date for revealing this on American market.
