The New Audi S3 Revealed With More Power

Author: |

The Volkswagen Golf R has long been known for its impressive power, often surpassing its more upscale counterpart, the Audi S3, despite being slightly less expensive. However, this discrepancy is set to change with the upcoming mid-cycle refresh of the 2025 Audi S3, which promises a boost in horsepower and torque.

2025 Audi S3

Under the hood of the 2025 Audi S3 lies an enhanced turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine, now generating 328 horsepower and an estimated 420 Nm of torque. This marks a substantial increase of 22 hp and 20 Nm compared to its predecessor, outperforming the Golf R, which currently boasts 315 hp and 400 Nm of torque. It's worth noting that Volkswagen's hot hatch is also slated for a facelift later in the year, suggesting potential power enhancements.

In Europe, special editions of the Golf R already match the new S3's power output, indicating a competitive response from Volkswagen. Additionally, the S3 inherits the rear torque splitter technology from its higher-performance sibling, the RS3, allowing for fully variable torque distribution between the rear wheels. When combined with the newly introduced Dynamic Plus mode, the S3 exhibits a propensity for oversteer in its sportiest settings, providing enthusiasts with an engaging driving experience.

Further enhancements include an improved idle speed of 1,300 rpm for enhanced off-the-line performance, heightened throttle response, and slightly shorter gear ratios. The transmission now delays upshifts and anticipates downshifts earlier, maintaining higher engine revs for increased power availability. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph takes just 4.4 seconds, a tenth of a second quicker than the previous model, while the top speed remains unchanged at 155 mph.

The 2025 Audi S3 receives upgrades in handling as well, featuring 235/35 Falken performance tires for the 19-inch wheels, larger front brakes with perforated discs and new two-piston calipers, and an evolved electronic stability control system. Additionally, stiffer bearings for the wishbone suspension aim to enhance agility and responsiveness on the road.

In terms of aesthetics, both the four-door variant available in the United States and the five-door Sportback in Europe receive subtle styling updates to align with the design language of the 2025 A3. Notable changes include customizable LED daytime running lights, dynamic taillight animations, and four new exterior colors.

Inside the cabin, standard features include an ambient lighting package in the U.S. market, although the flat-bottomed steering wheel comes as an optional extra. Unlike the Golf R, physical buttons are retained below the 10.1-inch touchscreen interface. New additions include LED contour lighting in the center console and cup holders, as well as intricately laser-cut fabric panels for the front doors, illuminated from behind.

While pricing details for the 2025 Audi S3 are yet to be revealed, the previous model retailed for $48,495 after accounting for the destination charge. With its upgraded performance, enhanced handling, and refined interior and exterior features, the 2025 S3 is poised to continue its legacy as a formidable contender in the compact sports sedan segment.
