RTR Spec 5 Mustang Debuts With 870+ HP

RTR has officially introduced the Spec 5 Mustang, positioning it as their most ambitious and premium performance car to date. Calling it a “halo vehicle” may actually be underselling it, considering the jaw-dropping starting price of $159,999. To put that in perspective, this figure is nearly $95,619 higher than Ford’s own 2026 Mustang Dark Horse, which begins at $64,380. Despite carrying such an eye-watering price tag, the Spec 5 isn’t built entirely from scratch; it originates from the Mustang GT equipped with the Performance Package. Powering it is the well-known 5.0-liter V8 engine, but RTR has taken things further by adding a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, a heavy-duty race intercooler system, and a Borla cat-back exhaust, giving the car a far more aggressive performance edge.

In terms of exterior styling, RTR has made sure the Spec 5 stands out from any standard Mustang on the road. The coupe wears a widebody kit with specially designed fenders, bumper extensions, and composite rocker panels. A ventilated hood, an illuminated front grille, and distinctive RTR graphics enhance its striking appearance. Lightweight carbon fiber elements are also used extensively, including the front splitter, side skirts, and unique “wake towers.” At the back, there’s a substantial spoiler and an innovative fuel door design that flips upward instead of swinging outward. RTR even highlighted this unusual feature as a mark of their dedication to detail, boasting of its billet aluminum arms, nylon laser-printed bucket, and integrated water drainage system.

Moving inside, RTR has only offered a partial look at the cabin, but what’s visible points to a blend of sportiness and exclusivity. The car comes with RTR-branded Recaro sport seats finished with cool grey leather bolsters and black suede inserts. Other touches include custom RTR floor mats, a uniquely designed teardrop-shaped shifter, and a serialized dashboard plaque engraved with the signature of professional driver Vaughn Gittin Jr., further enhancing its collector appeal.

All of these upgrades translate into breathtaking performance. Thanks to the new supercharged setup, the Spec 5 produces over 870 horsepower and 894 Nm of torque—that’s a gain of 390 hp and 332 Nm compared to the standard Mustang GT. Even more impressively, it outguns Ford’s own high-performance GTD, rated at 815 hp, by an extra 55 horsepower. Buyers can pair this immense power with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a ten-speed automatic transmission, ensuring both purists and modern drivers are satisfied.

Handling is equally impressive, with the Spec 5 fitted with the RTR Tactical Performance suspension system. This includes 30-way adjustable front coilovers, rear dampers, height-adjustable springs, and adjustable sway bars at both ends. Grip is provided by 20-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, while stopping power is delivered by a Brembo braking system featuring two-piece rotors and six-piston front calipers.

Production of the Spec 5 will be extremely limited, with just 50 units scheduled for the 2026 model year. While its nearly $160,000 price tag might seem astronomical, RTR notes that it still comes in more than $10,000 cheaper than the 830-horsepower Shelby Super Snake, making it an appealing alternative for enthusiasts seeking ultimate Mustang performance.
