Stellantis is set to expand its lineup of pickup trucks in South America by introducing the new Ram 1200. Prior to its official launch, leaked images and information have surfaced online, providing a glimpse into the truck's design and pricing in Mexico.
The Ram 1200 is closely related to the Fiat Titano and Peugeot Landtrek midsize trucks, all built on the same ladder frame platform as the Chinese Kaicene F70 and Changan pickups. This design choice differentiates them from the smaller unibody Ram Rampage. The Ram 1200's exterior largely mirrors that of the Fiat and Peugeot versions, with the primary difference being the unique Ram grille. The Tradesman trim features unpainted plastic bumpers, while the Bighorn and Laramie trims include body-colored bumpers, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and chrome-finished grilles.
Although the exact dimensions of the Ram 1200 haven't been officially released, it's expected to be similar to the Fiat Titano, which measures 5,331 mm in length for the double-cab model. This suggests that the Ram 1200 will be of comparable size to popular midsize pickups like the Toyota Hilux.
In Mexico, the Ram 1200 will be available in single and double cab versions and offered in Tradesman, Bighorn, and Laramie trims. All versions will come with a turbocharged 2.4-liter gasoline engine that produces 207 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. This four-cylinder engine, sourced from the Peugeot Landtrek, can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle will primarily feature rear-wheel drive, with the exception of the Laramie trim, which will offer a four-wheel-drive system.
Auto Cosmos reports that the Ram 1200 will be imported from China, unlike the Fiat Titano, which is manufactured in Uruguay. The entry-level Tradesman Regular Cab trim is expected to have a payload capacity of 1,200 kg and a towing capacity of 3,000 kg, making it a strong contender for various hauling needs.
Pricing for the Ram 1200 in Mexico starts at $26,729 for the basic Tradesman model and goes up to $40,206 for the high-end Laramie trim. Sales are anticipated to begin in June, providing consumers with a new, versatile option in the midsize truck segment. With its competitive pricing, powerful engine, and multiple configurations, the Ram 1200 is well-positioned to attract significant attention in the South American market.
