Porsche, Lamborghini, and Audi Issue Recall Over Fuel Pump Fire Risk

Volkswagen Group, the parent company behind some of the world’s most well-known luxury and performance brands, is now facing a safety challenge that stretches across several of its subsidiaries. A new recall has been announced that involves Porsche, Lamborghini, and Audi models, all due to a potentially dangerous issue with their high-pressure fuel pumps. Although the number of affected vehicles is relatively small, the concern is significant because it poses a fire hazard.

Porsche appears to be the brand most impacted. The company is recalling 107 units from its 2024 to 2026 model lineup, including the Panamera, Panamera E-Hybrid, and Cayenne. Authorities explained that the fasteners holding the high-pressure fuel pump may not have been tightened to the proper specification during assembly. This mistake could lead to fuel leakage, and with gasoline being highly flammable, the possibility of a fire becomes a very real danger.

Unfortunately, this isn’t just a theoretical risk. Earlier this month, an actual incident occurred with another brand under the Volkswagen umbrella. A 2025 Lamborghini Urus caught fire after the driver noticed a strong fuel odor and a warning light. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the case drew attention to the seriousness of the defect. Even more concerning was a second problem reported shortly after, again involving a Urus. While this one did not burst into flames, it suffered a major malfunction when 16 liters of fuel ended up contaminating the oil sump, clearly pointing to a severe assembly flaw.

Investigators determined that the problem originated on the production line. Due to a scanner malfunction, the first tightening step for the pump fasteners was not done with the correct tool. To make matters worse, the final tightening procedure was not carried out to specification. These combined oversights meant that the fuel pump and its connections were not securely attached, opening the door to leaks and mechanical failures.

Although Porsche is taking the brunt of the recall, the problem has also been linked to 14 Lamborghini Urus SUVs from the 2025 model year and even a single Audi SQ7 produced in the same timeframe. While the overall scope of the recall seems small in comparison to typical industry-wide campaigns, the high value of these vehicles and the serious nature of the risk make it a pressing issue for affected owners.

To resolve the defect, dealerships will be tasked with carefully inspecting the fuel pump connections. If needed, technicians will properly tighten the components and replace both the high-pressure fuel pump and associated fuel lines. Volkswagen Group hopes these measures will prevent further incidents and restore customer confidence in its prestigious brands.
