Rumors says that the next generation Subaru WRX STI may use a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine with approximately 400 hp. If this rumors come true that will be a significant upgrade over the current models 310 hp power output. The current generation Subaru WRX STI also uses a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine with 310 hp and 393 nm of torque. The new engine will come exclusively with an updated 6-speed manual transmission.
The regular WRX also uses a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with 268 hp and 350 nm of torque but it is also expected to gain more power and torque in the new generation. The normal WRX can be ordered with a 6-speed manual or automatic CVT transmission.
Subaru will launch the new WRX STI in 2022.
