Mitsuoka Launches the Elegant Viewt Royal Edition

Mitsuoka has introduced a new special version of its Viewt model, calling it the Royal Edition. This edition is being offered in three distinct and elegant exterior color options: Royal Green, Royal Red, and Royal White. While these colors help set the Royal Edition apart, the overall design remains faithful to the original Viewt model. That means it still closely resembles the classic 1963 Jaguar Mk2—a beloved British luxury car from decades past—but with a modern twist and slightly larger dimensions.

Design-wise, the Royal Edition maintains the same core aesthetic as the standard Viewt. It retains the retro-inspired look with chrome bumpers at both the front and rear, staying true to Mitsuoka’s signature vintage styling. However, to distinguish this version from the regular Viewt, the Royal Edition adds a unique badge at the rear. This subtle update is meant to signal to onlookers that this is not just any Viewt—it’s a more exclusive and refined version. Despite these efforts to invoke a classic British feel, no one is likely to be tricked into thinking the Royal Edition is an actual vintage Jaguar. It’s clearly a small modern car tailored for nostalgic appeal, rather than an authentic piece of British motoring history.

Inside the Royal Edition, the car features a uniform interior theme across all color variants. Mitsuoka has chosen Royal Brown-colored synthetic leather for the seats, door panels, and lower dashboard. This choice of material and color gives the cabin a more luxurious and sophisticated look. Additionally, the interior includes a small detail that pays homage to the car’s British design inspiration—a Union Jack emblem is subtly placed on the seats, adding a charming touch to the cabin’s retro-modern vibe.

Mechanically, the Viewt Royal Edition shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Yaris, as it is built on the same TNGA-B platform. As a result, it offers the same engine choices as the Yaris. Buyers can select from a 1.0-liter or 1.5-liter gasoline engine, or opt for a 1.5-liter hybrid setup. The 1.0-liter model is only available with front-wheel drive and uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The 1.5-liter petrol version offers more flexibility, with a choice between a CVT or a six-speed manual transmission, and either front-wheel or four-wheel drive. The hybrid variant, paired with a CVT, also comes with both two- and four-wheel drive options.

Mitsuoka is currently accepting orders for the Viewt Royal Edition until December 21. However, the company has not specified a production limit. Pricing for this unique model starts at 3.85 million yen, which is approximately $26,300, and can go as high as 5.1348 million yen, or about $35,100, depending on the chosen configuration.
