Starting next month, the 2025 MG 4 will become more expensive, as the automaker has announced price increases across the range. The new base price for this compact electric vehicle will begin at $37,990 drive-away. However, buyers who act quickly can still take advantage of the current promotional pricing, which offers discounts ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, depending on the variant. These discounted prices will remain valid until June 30. After that date, MG has made it clear that the prices will become fixed and no additional reductions are expected.
The new starting price of $37,990 for the entry-level Excite 51 variant represents a significant jump from the vehicle’s lowest price point of $30,990 drive-away, which was offered late last year. Nonetheless, this upcoming figure is still lower than the model’s original launch price two years ago, which exceeded $40,000 drive-away. MG attributes these changes to the transition from Model Year 2024 (MY24) to Model Year 2025 (MY25) stock. As of now, the company has not confirmed whether any remaining MY24 vehicles will adopt the higher MY25 pricing from July 1 onwards. MG was contacted for clarification on this point.
Interestingly, despite the model year change, MG has confirmed that there are no specification differences between the MY24 and MY25 versions of the MG 4. Both versions are essentially identical in features, performance, and appearance. The MY25 update appears to be a placeholder model year, with no physical changes, and may serve as the final iteration of the current design before a refreshed version of the MG 4 is introduced in early 2026. This expected facelift is rumored to include a redesigned interior and subtle updates to the car’s exterior, aimed at keeping the MG 4 competitive in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
Sales figures for the MG 4 so far in 2025 show that approximately 1,700 units have been sold during the first four months of the year. This marks a 6.2 percent decline compared to the same period in the previous year. While this drop is relatively modest, it may reflect increased competition or customer hesitation in response to shifting prices. As the electric vehicle segment continues to expand, MG will likely rely on the upcoming facelift to reignite interest in its most compact EV offering.
