Mercedes-AMG Prepares a New Era of Electric Performance Flagships

Mercedes took advantage of the excitement surrounding the Las Vegas Grand Prix to give the public a clearer look at its updated GT 4-Door, a model that has been anticipated for quite some time. The company has been slowly building interest for nearly two years, offering occasional teasers and confirming key technical details along the way. One of the biggest revelations so far is that the car will be based on the brand-new AMG.EA architecture. Mercedes describes this platform as a major milestone in its engineering evolution, crafted from a combination of lightweight aluminum, durable steel, and advanced fiber-reinforced composite materials. This mix is designed to deliver a structure that is both light and extremely rigid, laying the foundation for improved performance and efficiency across the vehicle.

The prototype displayed in Las Vegas wore a vibrant, eye-catching wrap and carried far less camouflage than earlier development vehicles, signaling that the design is nearing completion. The electric performance sedan clearly draws inspiration from the AMG GT XX concept, adopting several of its more futuristic styling elements. Among these are the distinctive star-pattern headlights and a fully closed-off grille that emphasizes the car’s electric identity. Additional design elements include vertically oriented air curtains that direct airflow efficiently, along with a modest front splitter that appears integrated rather than exaggerated. Moving along the body, the car features a sharply angled windshield that transitions smoothly into a sweeping, coupe-like roofline. The side profile is clean and uncluttered, marked by flush door handles and streamlined surfacing meant to enhance aerodynamics. While the rear portion still contains mismatched prototype parts, the lower bumper looks close to production specification, hinting at what the final version will offer.

Mercedes has kept the cabin mostly under wraps, and the few interior shots available reveal only limited details. However, earlier spy images indicate that the production model will be equipped with a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel and a prominent curved display, similar in design to the one showcased in the GT XX concept. This suggests a driver-focused interior combining performance cues with advanced digital technology.

Beyond aesthetics, the GT 4-Door is expected to benefit from several technical breakthroughs. The new platform will likely house a next-generation battery system, and Mercedes-AMG is reportedly preparing to offer configurations with as many as three axial-flux electric motors. In concept form, this setup delivered an astonishing output of more than 1,341 horsepower. While the final production variant might dial back the extreme numbers for practicality and reliability, it is still expected to deliver remarkable performance. Mercedes-AMG is placing significant expectations on the GT 4-Door and its upcoming crossover sibling, both of which are intended to play key roles in the company’s electric performance lineup moving forward.
