One of the best-selling plug-in hybrid cars in America is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, but that reputation may be short-lived as the carmaker is recalling thousands of SUVs due to a fire hazard.
Currently, the automaker is remaining silent, but an internal investigation that resulted from a review of customer data found eight vehicle fires. Six of the impacted models were linked to chargers, and all of the other models were parked and turned off.
Wrangler 4xe SUVs from the 2021–2024 model years are included in the recall; the manufacturer has already created a software flash fix for this issue. But according to the automaker, the battery pack will be changed if a specific error code is noticed. Although it's a significant inconvenience, the company claims that only 1% of cars have the problem.
The carmaker is recalling 32,125 Wranglers in the US, 3,856 in Canada, and 9,249 more vehicles worldwide due to this clearly concerning situation. There are 45,230 units in total, and the company stated that these are only estimates at this time.
The timing of the recall is unfortunate because many owners are probably taking Thanksgiving vacations. The carmaker asserted that driving shouldn't be a problem, though. Rather than charging, owners ought to park outside, away from buildings and other cars.
Stellantis is not aware of any accidents or injuries connected to the eight fires. It's encouraging that the trend is continuing. Six of the impacted models were linked to chargers, and all of the other models were parked and turned off.
