Meet the All-New Citroën C5 Aircross

Citroën has officially unveiled the next-generation C5 Aircross, a revamped iteration of its quirky SUV that blends signature French eccentricity with a wave of modern upgrades. Building upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, this refreshed model introduces a more refined design, an enhanced comfort-oriented interior, and a variety of electrified powertrains. Available in fully electric, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid forms, the new C5 Aircross is Citroën’s most forward-looking SUV to date.

Stylistically, the updated C5 Aircross follows the design language seen across newer Citroën models such as the C3, C4, and Berlingo. It adopts a more aerodynamic and sculpted body, aiding both visual appeal and efficiency. Wheel sizes now reach up to 20 inches, and the SUV boasts a respectable 200 mm of ground clearance, making it well-suited for both urban and light off-road driving. One of the standout exterior features is the retention of the bold LED taillights first seen on the concept model. While the production version simplifies elements like the door handles and thickens the pillars, it maintains a playful and distinctive aesthetic.

Dimensionally, the new C5 Aircross has grown. It now stretches 4,652 mm in length and rides on a 2,784 mm wheelbase — an increase of 150 mm and 60 mm respectively. This growth translates to a roomier cabin, especially benefiting rear passengers in terms of legroom and headroom. Inside, Citroën introduces its "C-Zen Lounge" concept, anchored by a floating 13-inch vertical infotainment touchscreen — the largest HD central screen ever featured in a Stellantis vehicle. This is complemented by a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, a head-up display, wireless charging, and an optional panoramic sunroof.

The interior’s comfort theme continues with Citroën’s Advanced Comfort seats, upholstered in soft foam fabric and offering features like heating, ventilation, electric adjustments, and even massage functions. Rear passengers enjoy reclining seatbacks and optional heated seats, though the previous model’s innovative three-separate-seat layout has been replaced. Storage has also improved, with 651 liters of boot space plus hidden compartments totaling 115 liters.

Underpinning the SUV is Stellantis' STLA Medium platform, shared with models like the Peugeot 3008, Opel Grandland, and DS No8. This platform allows for a wide range of powertrains. The fully electric versions come in two variants: a Standard Range with 207 hp and 520 km of range from a 73 kWh battery, and an Extended Range with 227 hp and 679 km of range from a 97 kWh pack. Both support up to 160 kW DC fast charging. The mild-hybrid variant features a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine paired with a 12 hp electric motor and a small 0.9 kWh battery. For more electric range, the Plug-in Hybrid 195 offers a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a single motor producing 193 hp, with up to 85 km of EV-only driving.

As with previous Citroëns, the suspension system features Progressive Hydraulic Cushions, designed to deliver a “magic carpet ride.” The optional Drive Assist 2.0 package adds Level 2 autonomous driving features. Positioned to replace the outgoing C5X, the new C5 Aircross is expected to become Citroën’s flagship model. It will be built in Rennes, France, and is slated for a European launch in the second half of 2025, with pricing details yet to be announced.
