Genesis Reveals Wild Mid-Engine Magma GT

Genesis has decided to skip the traditional Los Angeles Auto Show spotlight and instead reveal an astonishing new Magma GT concept during a dedicated event in France. The dramatic unveiling marks the brand’s 10th anniversary and underscores a bold message: this machine is being presented as much more than a mere styling exercise. According to the company, the Magma GT represents their vision of a true, purpose-built sports car—the first of its kind in the Genesis portfolio.

The concept immediately commands attention with a sleek shark-inspired front profile highlighted by a substantial lower splitter. The front fascia also features a broad air intake decorated with a striking version of Genesis’ signature G-Matrix pattern. Even the brand’s iconic dual-line headlights have been reinterpreted, now incorporating subtle canard-style extensions at the outer edges—an aerodynamic flourish that shows thoughtful engineering, not just artistic expression.

Continuing along the body, the Magma GT wears a ventilated clamshell-style hood and is fitted with dramatic butterfly doors that open upward for maximum visual impact. The A-pillars have been finished in black, creating the illusion of a seamless glass canopy wrapping around the cockpit. The rest of the exterior showcases clean, aerodynamic surfaces, flush-fitting door handles, and what designers describe as a “boat-tail” cabin that tapers toward the rear for a classic sports car silhouette. Additional performance-oriented elements include front fender vents and pronounced rear haunches that emphasize the car’s athletic stance. Lightweight wheels paired with a high-performance braking system further signal the concept’s serious intent.

At the rear, the Magma GT features a ventilated panel, a full-width LED light bar, and illuminated Genesis script. Below that, a boldly shaped diffuser dominates the lower section and is paired with a centrally mounted triple-outlet exhaust system—an unusual design that hints strongly at combustion-based power rather than an electric setup.

Genesis has been cautious about sharing detailed mechanical specifics, but the company did confirm that the concept uses a mid-rear engine configuration. Industry observers believe a V8 is the most likely choice, though this remains unconfirmed. Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis’ President and Chief Creative Officer, emphasized that the Magma GT expresses the brand’s ultimate performance ambition. He described the car as feeling naturally in tune with its driver, stable even when pushed, and carefully engineered so that every component contributes to delivering effortless performance.

Although the Magma GT looks like a futuristic showpiece, Genesis strongly hinted at production potential. The company said the car visually and philosophically reflects their goals as they move deeper into motorsport and expand their high-performance Magma lineup. They also noted that the concept aligns closely with the performance roadmap announced earlier this year, which called for a new flagship “halo car.” In fact, Genesis suggested that this model could eventually be developed into a full racing version, signaling the possibility that the Magma GT might not remain a concept for long.
