A 3.3-liter, turbocharged, mild-hybrid inline-six-cylinder engine with 340 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque will be the base engine choice. It is a mild hybrid, and to accelerate the car off the line, an electric motor is positioned in between the engine and the torque converter-free eight-speed automatic transmission.

A 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder engine serves as the foundation for the plug-in hybrid powertrain. It has been modified to operate with a 17.8 kWh battery-powered electric motor. While the CX-90's all-electric range, charging times, and other specifics are yet unknown, Mazda has at least confirmed that the driveline will produce 323 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. The eight-speed automatic transmission from Mazda will also be attached to it.
