The new Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric have been unveiled by Opel and Vauxhall. The models resemble their ICE-powered counterparts almost exactly.

The Opel Astra Electric shares the same aesthetic as other Astra models. The Opel Visor grille's front intakes and slits are still there. The sharper bumpers of the GS Line and 18-inch alloy wheels with a diamond cut or completely black finish are included as standard equipment on the EV.

Inside, there are two 10-inch Pure Panel digital cockpit panels, multi-adjustable AGR-approved sports seats with Alcantara upholstery options, and a head-up display. A number of ADAS are included in the Intelli-Drive 2.0 package, together with the adaptable Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light, as safety equipment.

Like the mechanically related Peugeot E-308, they both use an entirely electric drivetrain. The EVs have a single front-mounted electric motor that can produce 154 horsepower and 270 Newton meters of torque. Although the business withheld acceleration data, the peak speed is capped at 170 km/h. The hatchback and the estate have the same 416 km WLTP range thanks to the 54 kWh lithium-ion battery. The battery can be charged to 80% using a 100 kWh DC fast charger in 30 minutes.

Three driving options are available to the driver: Eco, Normal, and Sport, which, depending on the situation, prioritize range or performance.

According to Opel, the location of the battery under the body does not affect the amount of room available for passengers and luggage. However, compared to its ICE-powered counterpart, the Astra Sports Tourer Electric's load capacity ranges from 516 to 1,553 liters.

Order books will open for the EV in spring 2023, joining the petrol and plug-in hybrid versions of the Astra lineup the following year. Pricing information will be released nearer to the market debut.
