Volkswagen Prepares New ID.UNYX 06 Electric For China

Volkswagen has recently submitted documents to Chinese authorities, hinting at the arrival of a new electric vehicle: the ID.UNYX 06. This model is likely a modified version of the existing ID.UNYX, a stylish electric coupe SUV launched in July 2024 as part of the brand's ambitious ID.UX series.

The ID.UX series, signifying "Make Every Moment Gold," represents Volkswagen's commitment to the Chinese electric vehicle market. The company aims to introduce five smart electric vehicles under this series by 2027, all manufactured by Volkswagen Anhui, their third joint venture in China. However, the series has faced a slow start, with only 373 units sold in the third quarter of 2024. To reignite sales amidst fierce competition, Volkswagen recently slashed the ID.UNYX's price by 40,000 yuan ($23,200).

ID.UNYX 06

The ID.UNYX 06, as revealed in official documents, maintains the distinctive design cues of its predecessor. This includes the sleek through-type headlights and taillights, a subtle ducktail spoiler, and the prominent Volkswagen logo in red. The five-seater configuration and overall dimensions remain unchanged. However, the new model boasts a weight reduction of 70 kg compared to the current single-motor variant, now tipping the scales at 2091 kg.

Powering the ID.UNYX 06 is expected to be an electric motor delivering 228 horsepower, drawing energy from a lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack supplied by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture. While specific details regarding battery capacity, range, and charging capabilities are yet to be disclosed, the vehicle will ride on 20-inch wheels.

The current ID.UNYX offers a range of 614 km and 555 km (CLTC) and is priced between $28,900 and $34,400. The introduction of the ID.UNYX 06 suggests Volkswagen's continued efforts to strengthen its position in the competitive Chinese electric vehicle market. By refining the existing ID.UNYX platform, Volkswagen aims to offer a more compelling and potentially more affordable option to Chinese consumers.
