Nissan has unveiled a brand-new midsize SUV developed jointly with its long-time Chinese partner, Dongfeng, adding yet another model to the increasingly diverse and value-focused N-series family. This latest entry, called the NX8, expands the lineup beyond the N6 and N7 sedans and brings with it a variety of electrified powertrain options aimed at budget-minded buyers who still want modern technology.
Stylistically, the NX8 follows the same contemporary design approach already seen on the N-series sedans. The SUV features smooth body panels and a clean, grille-less front end that emphasizes minimalism. A full-width daytime running light stretches across the front, connecting the split headlamp units and continuing onto the front fenders, giving the vehicle a futuristic signature. At the rear, the styling remains cohesive with a wide set of OLED tail lights forming a continuous strip across the tailgate. The overall silhouette leans heavily into traditional SUV proportions, with strong shoulder lines, flush door handles, and a purposeful stance.
In terms of size, the NX8 measures 4,870 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,680 mm tall, supported by a 2,917 mm wheelbase. These dimensions place it between Nissan’s existing offerings: it is noticeably longer than the X-Trail by 222 mm but still 152 mm shorter than the Pathfinder. Surprisingly, the NX8 actually has a slightly longer wheelbase than the Pathfinder—by 17 mm—which suggests improved interior legroom and overall cabin comfort.

The exterior photos published so far also show a collection of advanced sensors, including a roof-mounted lidar array, signaling that the SUV is likely to offer a more sophisticated suite of driver-assistance technologies than typical models in its price bracket. While Nissan has yet to release interior images, expectations are that the cabin will echo the designs of the N6 and N7, possibly featuring a dominant central touchscreen, modern digital interfaces, and an emphasis on soft-touch materials. Nissan has confirmed a generous five-seat layout, promising spacious accommodations for families.
Powertrain choices further reinforce the NX8’s classification as a New Energy Vehicle (NEV). Specifications submitted to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology outline multiple electrified variants. Fully electric versions will come with a single motor producing either 288 horsepower or a more potent 335 horsepower. Additionally, buyers will have the option of a plug-in hybrid or range-extended setup that combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine generating 146 horsepower with an electric motor rated at 262 horsepower. All models will rely on CATL-supplied lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which are designed to support extremely fast charging speeds. Although battery capacities and range figures are not yet available, Nissan is expected to reveal those details closer to launch.
The NX8 is scheduled to reach the Chinese market in the first half of 2026, with pricing to be announced nearer to its release. Just like the N6 and N7 sedans, the NX8 is expected to be exported to additional global markets afterward, though it remains uncertain whether that rollout will include Western regions such as Europe or Australia. If pricing aligns with the rest of the N-series, consumers can expect competitive affordability—the N7 sedan, for example, currently ranges from roughly $17,000 to $21,200.
