Lexus has taken an already capable subcompact crossover, the LBX, and given it a high-performance makeover by integrating a potent engine borrowed from Toyota’s high-performance lineup. Specifically, the LBX Morizo RR is powered by the same 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine found in the GR Yaris and GR Corolla. This transformation turns the small SUV into a vehicle that blends the speed and precision of Gazoo Racing’s engineering with the refined styling and smooth driving experience associated with the Lexus brand. The result is a stylish and powerful contender that competes with the likes of the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35.
Expanding on this performance-focused model, Lexus has now introduced an even more exclusive version known as the LBX Morizo RR Original Edition. This newly launched variant has been revealed in Japan and brings with it several unique visual enhancements. Most notably, it comes finished in a sleek Sonic Chrome paint, which is complemented by bold yellow accents on both the front fascia and brake calipers. The design of this special edition is heavily inspired by a concept car Lexus showcased previously, and it closely resembles the personal vehicle of Akio Toyoda, the chairman of Toyota.
According to automotive outlet Creative311, Lexus will manufacture only 100 units of the LBX Morizo RR Original Edition, making it an ultra-limited release. All these units are reserved exclusively for the Japanese market, and buyers cannot simply purchase one off the lot. Instead, they must participate in a lottery to secure a chance at ownership. Although pricing has yet to be officially disclosed, it’s expected that this exclusive model will command a higher price than the standard Morizo RR due to its rarity and distinctive styling.
While the Original Edition doesn't offer any mechanical upgrades beyond the standard Morizo RR, the base vehicle is already a strong performer. It produces 300 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters of torque from its three-cylinder engine, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.2 seconds. The model features all-wheel drive and gives buyers the choice between a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, echoing the flexibility found in the GR Yaris and GR Corolla.
Unfortunately for American consumers, the LBX Morizo RR will not be sold in the United States. Though U.S. buyers can still purchase the GR Corolla, that model is a sporty hatchback rather than a crossover and lacks the premium interior finishes that Lexus is known for.
