LDV Launches Budget-Friendly Campervan

After gaining steady momentum in Western markets with a wide range of vehicles—from budget-friendly SUVs to full-size pickup trucks—Chinese automakers are beginning to move into more specialized niches. One of the newest frontiers they are exploring is the increasingly popular campervan segment. In countries such as Australia, campervans have experienced a significant rise in demand over the last ten years. More people are embracing a lifestyle built around flexibility, self-guided travel, and the freedom to roam without relying on hotels or rigid itineraries. Recognizing this shift in consumer behavior, many brands are introducing vehicles designed specifically for long-term touring. Among them is China’s LDV, which has just rolled out the Deliver 9 campervan—an attractively priced, factory-built recreational vehicle that undercuts the similarly sized Volkswagen Crafter Kampervan by nearly half.

The Deliver 9 campervan is based on the long-wheelbase, high-roof variant of LDV’s standard Deliver 9 van. It measures 5,940 mm in length and 2,925 mm in height, proportions that give it both interior spaciousness and a commanding presence on the road. LDV has also added several visual touches to distinguish it from its cargo-oriented sibling. These include bold gray-and-red exterior graphics, a large retractable awning for shade, and an unmistakable rooftop air-conditioning unit that clearly signals the van’s purpose as a mobile living space.

Stepping inside is easy, thanks to an electronically controlled side step. The sliding door is accompanied by a fly-screen cover, providing ventilation while keeping insects out. Once inside, occupants are greeted by an interior layout that resembles a compact apartment. The kitchen occupies one side and comes equipped with a stainless-steel sink, a refrigerator, a freezer, a microwave oven, and an induction cooktop—everything needed for cooking on the go. A nearby door leads to a self-contained bathroom, which includes an indoor shower. For travelers who enjoy outdoor rinses after a swim or hike, LDV has also added an external shower attachment.

Toward the front of the cabin are two swiveling captain’s chairs and a stowable dining table, which together create a flexible social or eating area. A rear bench completes the main seating arrangement. At the very back of the van is a double bed that can be easily assembled or taken down within a minute, allowing full access to the rear cargo doors when not in use. The layout is optimized for two occupants, though a very small third sleeper might manage on the front bench. To power the interior appliances, the campervan comes with a 2.56 kWh lithium-ion auxiliary battery and a 190-watt solar panel mounted on the roof. Water is stored in three separate tanks: a 100-liter freshwater tank, a 100-liter greywater tank, and a 16-liter waste tank.

Mechanically, the Deliver 9 campervan is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 145 horsepower and 375 Nm of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels. With an 80-liter fuel tank, the van is designed for long journeys and extended stays away from major towns. It also boasts a towing capacity of 2,800 kg, making it suitable for pulling small boats, trailers, or motorcycle carriers.

Perhaps the most striking aspect of the Deliver 9 campervan, however, is its pricing. LDV has positioned the vehicle at a drive-away price of AU$89,990, making it one of the most affordable full-size factory-built campervans currently available in Australia—an offer that is likely to attract both newcomers and experienced travelers looking for value.
