Last Chance to Own a BMW Z4: Limited Final Edition Announced

Author: |

Raise a glass to the BMW Z4, because its journey is coming to an end. BMW has officially confirmed that the cherished convertible will soon leave the production line for good. As a way of honoring the roadster’s departure, the company is preparing a highly exclusive Final Edition based on the Z4 M40i. However, fans should be prepared for a steep price tag, as this farewell version does not come cheap.

BMW keeps things simple in terms of configuration. The Final Edition is offered in just one main specification, and the only decision potential buyers need to make concerns the transmission. Customers can choose between an eight-speed Steptronic automatic or a six-speed manual gearbox. Opting for the manual transmission automatically adds the Edition Handschalter Package, which brings several performance-oriented upgrades. This package introduces specially tuned software for the rear dampers, steering response, traction-control settings, and the M Sport differential, giving the car a more engaging and personalized driving feel.

Power remains unchanged compared to the standard Z4 M40i. Beneath the hood lies a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine delivering 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, ensuring the Final Edition retains its familiar punch and straight-line speed. Visually, the car stands out with staggered Dual-Spoke Bicolor 800M wheels—19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear—which emphasize its aggressive stance and performance heritage.

Every example of the Z4 Final Edition comes coated in BMW Individual Frozen Black metallic paint. To complete the dark, dramatic aesthetic, the Shadowline Package is included as standard. This adds glossy black details to the mirror caps, kidney grille, lower air intakes, and exhaust tips. The soft top, finished in Moonlight Black, contributes to the cohesive design, and bright red brake calipers offer a bold contrasting accent.

The interior continues the special-edition treatment. Red contrast stitching appears across the dashboard, center console, door panels, floor mats, and the sporty M seats, which are trimmed in a combination of black Vernasca leather and Alcantara. Unique door-sill plates further highlight that this is no ordinary Z4, reminding occupants that they are stepping into the exclusive Final Edition. Additional convenience and luxury features come standard, including the Driver Assistance Package, a Harman Kardon premium audio system, and the Premium Package. The latter adds upgrades such as ambient interior lighting, a head-up display, and other comfort-focused amenities.

Production of the Z4 Final Edition will take place from February through April of next year, and BMW emphasizes that the model will be manufactured in “very small numbers.” Regardless of whether buyers choose the manual or the automatic transmission, each unit carries a price of $78,675. For comparison, a regular 2026 Z4 M40i starts at $69,575, making the special edition a notable step up in cost.

BMW has not provided a precise date for when overall Z4 production will officially conclude. Meanwhile, the closely related Toyota Supra—built on the same platform—will end production in March. Toyota has already confirmed that a successor is on the way, but BMW remains silent on whether a fourth-generation Z4 will ever materialize.
