Kia K5 Gains Upgrades for 2026

With used car prices rising sharply and new vehicles becoming increasingly expensive, budget-conscious buyers are seeking more affordable alternatives. The Kia K5 has consistently been one of the more wallet-friendly midsize sedans in the market, and it continues to appeal to value-driven customers. However, the 2026 model of the Kia K5 comes with a modest price bump, reflecting ongoing trends in the automotive industry. Kia has increased the price across all trims by $420, pushing the new base price of the K5 to $28,565, which includes a $1,175 destination charge.

At the top of the range, the EX trim now starts at $36,065. This comes after a notable $5,000 price increase introduced for the 2025 model year. While that spike may seem steep, Kia justified the added cost by significantly upgrading the standard features offered with the EX trim. Enhancements included premium touches such as a Bose premium audio system, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel, and power-folding mirrors. These added amenities helped elevate the sedan’s appeal without compromising its affordability.

For 2026, the Kia K5 remains mostly unchanged compared to its 2025 predecessor. The lineup still consists of five trim levels, the majority of which are front-wheel drive. The GT-Line remains the only model available with all-wheel drive, priced at $31,165. A minor change in the 2026 model is the removal of the GT logo from the brake calipers of the high-performance GT trim.

When it comes to performance, the K5 offers two engine options. The standard trims continue to use a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which delivers 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The performance-oriented GT trim is equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces a more robust 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to a sportier eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, giving it a performance edge over the rest of the lineup.

Despite the slight increase in cost, the K5 remains an attractive option for those prioritizing value. Sales for the model have been gaining momentum in 2025, bouncing back from the previous year. The K5 is currently on pace to outperform its 2024 sales numbers and may even surpass 2023’s total. Although still below the 92,000 units sold in 2021, Kia is projected to sell just under 70,000 K5s in 2025—an encouraging sign that the sedan continues to resonate with practical, budget-conscious drivers.
