Honda's Electric Crossover Evolution

The e:NP2 and e:NS2 made their debut a year ago in Shanghai, initially as concept vehicles. When they appeared in Beijing for production, they bore a striking resemblance to their conceptual counterparts, albeit with a few modifications to refine their features. Notable changes include the adoption of more conventional LED graphics, larger mirror caps, and slightly downsized wheels.

While the crossover models share much of their bodywork, distinguishing factors lie in the distinct bumpers and unique lighting units adorning both ends. However, the most significant disparity lies in their origins: the e:NP2 hails from GAC Honda, whereas the e:NS2 is a product of the Dongfeng Honda joint venture.

Both models ride on the e:N Architecture F platform, equipped with a 68.8 kWh battery pack sourced from CATL and a single front-mounted electric motor producing 201 horsepower. Honda claims that the e:NP2 boasts a range of 545 kilometers under CLTC standards, with similar expectations for the e:NS2. Comparable in size to the Tesla Model Y, they measure 4,788 millimeters in length, 1,838 millimeters in width, and 1,570 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,735 millimeters.

Inside the cabin, occupants are greeted by a spacious head-up display and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen featuring China-specific software and the latest connectivity features. Additionally, an Intelligent Heating System minimizes power consumption, while an aroma system offers occupants a selection of fragrances.

Production of the Honda e:NP2 is already underway, with the Honda e:NS2 set to follow suit in June 2024. Regarding pricing, the e:NS2 is priced between $22,100 to $24,900 depending on the chosen trim level. Honda aims to have a total of 10 electric models available for purchase in China by 2027, as part of its journey toward becoming an EV-exclusive brand in the region by 2035.
