Haval H9 Crossing Edition Launches in China

GWM has officially rolled out the Haval H9 Crossing Edition in China, marking a notable expansion of its body-on-frame SUV portfolio. Priced at approximately $36,100, with a limited-period renewal offer lowering the entry point to around $32,600, the new variant is positioned as a more adventure-ready alternative to the standard diesel H9. What sets the Crossing Edition apart is its purpose-built hardware tailored for overland travel and demanding terrain, rather than a purely cosmetic upgrade.

With these changes, Haval aims to attract buyers seeking a factory-engineered SUV capable of serious cross-country use.

One of the most significant updates appears in the vehicle’s off-road geometry and chassis setup. The Crossing Edition benefits from a suspension lift that raises ride height by 30 millimetres compared with the regular diesel H9. This translates into a minimum ground clearance of 235 millimetres, enhancing its ability to traverse uneven surfaces. Complementing the lift are 265/65 R18 all-terrain tyres and a factory-applied grey exterior finish that visually distinguishes the model. According to official data, the SUV delivers an approach angle of 33 degrees and a departure angle of 26 degrees, while the breakover angle measures 25 degrees. Its water-fording capability is rated at 800 millimetres, reinforcing its suitability for rugged environments.

Despite these functional upgrades, the Crossing Edition maintains the core dimensions of the H9 platform. Overall length remains at 5,070 millimetres, width at 1,976 millimetres, height at 1,960 millimetres, and the wheelbase spans 2,850 millimetres. The exterior design continues the familiar H9 styling language, with a bold front grille featuring pronounced horizontal bars, rectangular headlight units, and circular LED daytime running lights that align with the current generation’s visual identity.

Inside, the cabin layout is largely carried over from the standard H9, preserving a balance between technology and comfort. The dashboard is dominated by a 14.6-inch central infotainment screen, paired with a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument display and a sculpted gear selector. Buyers can choose between five-seat and seven-seat configurations. Front occupants benefit from heated, ventilated, and massage-equipped seats, while second-row passengers receive heating and ventilation. Compared with the H9 Warrior Edition, the Crossing Edition introduces two additional terrain modes—“rock” and “expert”—to enhance off-road control. However, it also deletes certain luxury-oriented features such as integrated parking assistance, ambient interior lighting, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. Standard driver-assistance systems still reach Level 2 capability, and a forward-facing driving recorder is included.

Mechanical specifications mirror those of the diesel H9. Power comes from a 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine generating 137 kW and 490 Nm of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. A BorgWarner torque-on-demand four-wheel-drive system is standard, with optional front and rear differential locks available for enhanced traction. The fuel setup consists of dual tanks with a combined capacity of 131 litres, enabling a claimed driving range of up to 1,400 kilometres under certain conditions.

In the broader Chinese market, the Haval H9 Crossing Edition competes directly with other rugged, body-on-frame SUVs such as the Fangchengbao Bao 5 and the Beijing BJ60, positioning itself as a factory-ready solution for long-distance and off-road exploration.
