Dongfeng's Aeolus brand made a significant entrance into the plug-in hybrid SUV market on March 30 with the debut of its inaugural model, the L7. This release is distinct from Li Auto's Li L7 and Geely's Galaxy L7 SUVs. Previously known as the Haohan PHEV under Chinese MIIT classification, the L7 is set to make its formal appearance at the Beijing Auto Show commencing on April 25.
Over the next three years, Dongfeng Aeolus aims to introduce a total of 30 new energy passenger vehicles and 14 new energy commercial vehicles, aligning with its ambitious objective of achieving complete electrification.
Positioned as a compact SUV, the L7 boasts dimensions of 4685/1905/1625 mm, with a wheelbase of 2775 mm and a curb weight of 1800 kg. It offers optional 235/55R19 105V tires. Notable design features include a distinctive suspended roof, discreet door handles, sleek headlights integrated into the closed front face, concealed exhaust outlets, and a prominent high-mounted brake light at the rear.
Powering the L7 is Dongfeng's Mach plug-in hybrid system, comprising a 153 hp 1.5T engine and an electric motor model DFMC15TE3. Together, they deliver a combined output of 360 hp and torque of 615 Nm. With a comprehensive fuel consumption rating of 0.56 L per 100 km (WLTC), the vehicle boasts impressive efficiency. Its 30.32 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by CALB provides a comprehensive range of 1,500 km, with a pure electric range of 205 km. Moreover, the L7 supports fast charging, capable of replenishing from 30% to 80% in just 26 minutes or achieving a 300 km range in a mere five minutes of charging time.
Although interior configurations have yet to be officially confirmed, initial impressions suggest an energetic ambiance with a minimalistic approach to physical buttons. The cockpit features a striking large floating central control screen and a distinctive D-shaped steering wheel, with two air-conditioning outlets positioned above the central screen.
At present, pricing details remain undisclosed, but we eagerly await further information as the L7 generates more buzz in the market.
