BYD has officially introduced the refreshed Tang L SUV at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show, a model that is marketed overseas under names such as Atto 8 and Sealion 8. This latest version showcases the company’s most recent advancements in electric-vehicle engineering, driver-assistance intelligence, and exterior design. The lineup consists of six different trims, with post-subsidy pricing set between 214,800 yuan (around 30,250 USD) and 274,800 yuan. Buyers can select either plug-in hybrid configurations or fully electric powertrains, according to details published by Y-Auto.

Externally, the Tang L continues to follow BYD’s recognizable Dragon Face design language, although the brand has refined a number of visual elements for a more fluid and athletic appearance. The front fascia receives redesigned “dragon whisker” accents that broaden the SUV’s stance, while the D-pillar adopts a distinctive shape intended to maximize ambient light and improve visibility for passengers seated in the third row. A roof-mounted lidar module is also present, further enhancing the vehicle’s advanced driving functions. At the back, the taillights draw directly from Chinese artistic motifs: the “Phoenix Wing” variant features lighting elements shaped like stylized feathers, whereas the “Bamboo Craft” option incorporates patterns reminiscent of traditional bamboo weaving.

Inside the vehicle, BYD has introduced a cabin inspired by classical Chinese architecture, merging cultural touches with contemporary styling. The interior features tiered, three-dimensional sculpted surfaces that create depth and a sense of visual layering. Bamboo-wood accents add warmth while complementing the modern dashboard, which has been sharply contoured to give the cockpit a refined and upscale feel. Every trim level includes BYD’s God’s Eye B laser-based DiPilot 300 intelligent-driving suite as standard, underscoring the model’s emphasis on safety and semi-autonomous capability.

The Tang L is available with both plug-in hybrid (DM) and pure electric (EV) systems. The hybrid version pairs BYD’s latest fifth-generation DM powertrain with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine generating 115 kW. Customers can choose between two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive layouts, with electric motors delivering up to 200 kW to each axle. This configuration enables the hybrid variant to sprint from 0–100 km/h in roughly 4.3 seconds. Depending on the specific model, the CLTC electric-only range falls between 175 and 215 kilometers.

The all-electric versions come with either a single motor or a dual-motor arrangement. The high-performance AWD model is rated at 230 kW at the front axle and 580 kW at the rear, pushing the SUV from 0–100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. All EV versions use a 100.531 kWh second-generation lithium-iron-phosphate blade battery. Driving range under the CLTC cycle varies by configuration, offering 560, 600, or 670 kilometers. Built on BYD’s Super e platform with a full-domain kilovolt electrical system, the EV lineup supports extremely high charging outputs—up to 1,000 kW peak. According to BYD, this allows approximately 370 kilometers of additional driving range to be replenished in only five minutes.

Alongside the hardware upgrades, BYD has updated the software experience as well. The SUV debuts the DiLink 150 infotainment system, which now includes automatic brightness adjustment, customizable seasonal themes, and three animated virtual mascots. The intelligent-driving feature list has also expanded, with a new “parking-spot to parking-spot” function that lets the vehicle autonomously exit a parking space, navigate around obstacles, and park at a chosen location with no driver intervention.
