BAIC’s off-road division, Beijing Off-road, has officially introduced the BJ40 Extended-Range Yuanjing Zhixing Edition, marking the latest addition to its lineup. Priced at approximately $28,700, this new variant is centered around significant improvements to its advanced driver-assistance capabilities. One of the key upgrades is the inclusion of high-speed NOA (Navigate on Autopilot), aimed at enhancing day-to-day usability, especially for drivers navigating busy urban areas or long highway stretches.
From the outside, the model continues to embrace the classic “square-box” silhouette that defines the BJ40 family. It retains the brand’s signature five-slot grille, which integrates both the headlamps and the daytime running lights into a cohesive front layout. The rugged character is reinforced by the presence of an externally mounted spare tire and a split tailgate design, features that are especially appreciated by off-road enthusiasts. The rear section is further enhanced by uniquely shaped “F-style” taillights, contributing to the vehicle’s distinctive and purposeful look.
Stepping inside, the cabin adopts a modern technology-forward approach. A dual-screen configuration extends across the dashboard, comprising the main center-control display and a dedicated front-passenger screen. Standard equipment across all trims includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch central touchscreen, a matching 12.8-inch passenger display, and a 9-inch streaming digital rearview mirror. The vehicle’s infotainment suite is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor, allowing smooth operation of intelligent features such as AI-driven voice interaction and situational dialogue. Audio performance is supported by a 10-speaker sound system paired with an independent amplifier for enhanced clarity. The new Yuanjing Zhixing Edition is built upon the “Yuanjing Intelligent” platform, integrating 26 high-precision sensors. These sensors enable high-level ADAS features such as highway NOA, automated parking assistance, and memory parking, significantly elevating the SUV’s smart-driving credentials.
Under the hood, the model adopts an extended-range hybrid powertrain. It pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with dual permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors. The combustion engine generates up to 188 horsepower, while the two electric motors together deliver an impressive combined output of 548 horsepower and a peak torque of 655 Nm. This setup is supported by a 40.3 kWh battery pack, allowing the vehicle to travel up to 152 kilometers on electric power alone under the CLTC cycle. For added durability and safety, the model also comes equipped with an integrated metal roll cage.
Overall, this version serves as the extended-range variant of the original BJ40 gasoline model, with the Yuanjing Zhixing Edition standing out as the upgraded NEV version featuring more advanced driver-assistance technology. As BAIC’s dedicated off-road brand, Beijing Off-road continues to strengthen its identity—one closely tied to China’s capital city, from which it derives its name—by blending traditional ruggedness with modern intelligent mobility features.
