Volkswagen has introduced the facelifted version of the car that launched its ID family of EVs, the ID.3, 2.5 years after the ID.3's first release. Updates to the Volkswagen ID.3 are significant since it can be seen as the Golf for the electric age.
The facelifted ID.3 now has a more striking appearance despite the relatively slight design modifications. The more muscular front bumper with larger air-cooling holes is the most obvious exterior improvement. Moreover, the turn signals are dynamic, and the brake lights form an X.
The new ID.3 has dimensions of 4,261 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width, and 1,562 mm in height, with a 2,770 mm-long wheelbase. Almost all of those measurements remain the same, but the model is 6 mm lower than its forerunner.
Moving on to the interior, it resembles the one in the existing model quite a bit, although according to Volkswagen, many client ideas were taken into account. The seats and door panels also have Artvelours Eco microfiber fabric. An augmented reality head-up display that projects dynamic navigation directions 10 meters in front of the car can be added to them.
A cleaner, more informative charging menu is now found on the top level of the main display, among other modifications to the infotainment system's menu structure.
Additional features include a ten-color ambient lighting system and a 1,267-liter capacity for luggage when the back seats are folded.
The same rear-mounted electric drive motor, rated at 201 horsepower and 310 Newton-meters of torque, is still used in the updated ID.3. The battery packs with 58 kWh and 77 kWh remaining are.
Although the smaller one provides 426 km of range in the ID.3 Pro, the larger one allows for a range of up to 546 km in the ID.3 Pro S. Volkswagen stated that a smaller battery is anticipated but gave no other information.
The 77 kWh battery of the ID.3 Pro S can be charged at a DC fast-charging station at a rate of up to 170 kW from 5 to 80% in 30 minutes. The same charging cycle takes 35 minutes at 120 kW for the 58-kWh pack in the ID.3 Pro.
A variety of driver assistance technologies, like adaptive cruise control, lane assist, travel assist with automated lane changes, and park assist plus with a memory function that may replicate specific, previously learned actions, are also available for the ID.3.
In Germany, the ID.3 Life starts at €43,995 and was made available for purchase in December. VW will start producing the car in Wolfsburg to assist fulfill demand, with deliveries set to start in the fourth quarter.
