2022 Honda Step WGN Revealed

The first iteration of the Step WGN was released in 1996, making this the 25th anniversary of the device.

Honda has formally debuted the all-new sixth-generation Step WGN online, a few weeks after providing teasers of the minivan ahead of its actual premiere at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

The Honda van, like all of its predecessors, is boxy and upright, and it still looks odd. The Air, Spada, and Spada Premium Line are the three model lines available for the 2022 Step WGN.

The sixth-generation Civic appears a lot cleaner than its predecessor, which was released in 2015 and had a facelift in 2017 and represents the latest iteration of Honda's design language.

A two-box architecture with a smoother surface, a longer front overhang, a pushed-back a-pillar, a lower beltline, wide sliding doors, standard 16-inch wheels, and a flat tail is used on the minivan.

Unfortunately, one of the new Step WGN's funny qualities has been gone. That would be the previous generation's unusual three-way tailgate. The former version included a pair of asymmetric sideways swinging doors that could also be opened as a single piece upwards.

Honda claims that the remainder of the Step WGN's body is longer, broader, and higher than before.

Because of the wider body, the van has plenty of headroom, and the huge windows make the inside light and airy.

The middle stack is dominated by a large floating screen, with a shelf above the glove box. The Step WGN's instrument cluster is digital, as is the case with other modern automobiles.

A large 11.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a useful tray above the glove box on the front passenger's side, an array of buttons in the center console, including simple switches for the auto gearbox, and slim honeycomb-patterned climate vents are all featured on the dashboard.

A pair of captain's chairs make up the second row of the Step WGN. These chairs, unlike others, can move side to side in addition to forward and backward. According to Honda, this allows one of the second-row seats to be closer to the front, making it easier for parents to reach their children. In addition, both the second and third rows may be reclined flat to create a bed.

Honda hasn't revealed any information about the minivan's platform or engine lineup. However, we already know that it will be offered as a hybrid as well as a gasoline-only model.

Honda's newest e-HEV hybrid powertrain technology is used in the gas-electric model. The hybrid Step-WGN also includes a push-button gear selection, whilst the non-hybrid has a traditional lever.

Honda is unlikely to build a Step WGN with a left-hand drive configuration. There's also a potential that this model will be sold outside of Japan. It's possible that, like the previous model, it'll only be available in Hong Kong and Macau.

Step forward WGN's market entry into Japan, which is set to take place in the spring of 2022.
